Had been here once before and thought it was good. Went back last night and got a totally different experience. Arrived at about 7:10 and were seated within a few minutes. It was somewhat busy at the time but lots of people finishing up and leaving shortly after we were seated. The problem was with the server--Karri. She asked us if we wanted appetizers and we told her we wanted some time to look but my husband wanted a drink. She returned within 1 minute, without the drink and asked about an appetizer again. We told her not yet, we wanted to relax and drink for a few minutes. She brought my husband's drink less than 1 minute later and again asked about an appetizer. I ordered a cup of the Shiner Beer cheese soup. The soup came very quickly and Karri then asked if we had decided on dinner. Again, we told her we wanted time to enjoy drinks and the soup. She was back at our table within 2 minutes asking about dinner choices again. At that point we were deciding whether to order dinner or leave!! We don't like to be rushed through dinner. Had the restaurant been on a wait, we would have sped things up but by that time it was 7:30-7:40 and most all other clients had left. We held off ordering dinner until my husband had finished most of his drink and I my soup. Dinner was not worth the hassle. I ordered the chicken fried pork chop. The gravy was very salty and the broccoli served with it was a big pile of mushy, unseasoned mess. The Shiner Beer soup was also not a favorite--lots of beer taste--almost like the beer had been poured in after the fact and not reduced during cooking. My husband ordered the Bistro Pasta with chicken. It was ok but again not worth going back for. Halfway through our meal, Karri was back asking about dessert. Totally annoying!!!! We finished part of dinner and the bottle of wine we ordered, paid the check and left. I don't know if Karri was in a hurry to get off the clock or what but we felt as though we were staying past closing time. This place closes at 9:00 and we were out by 8:35. It's too bad because New Braunfels needs good restaurants. But if service and food quality doesn't improve, it won't last. We...
Read moreThis is not the first time I have eaten here. I figured pop in for Brunch. The place was bussing with customers. We sat at the front, waiting to be seated for a few minutes. I commented, "Wow, you can tell they are understaffed." They sat us next to a larger table that was full. I had to pull the table out a little because it blocked the other table from getting out. The service was slow, but understandable without busy they were. I had ordered the special, which was this chicken sandwich with diced tomatoes and fries. We also ordered this Shrimp Egg Benedict. The sandwich was just ok. It was a grilled chicken patty that was covered in diced tomatoes. I am really not sure what they were trying to go with this sandwich. The fries were lukewarm. I am not a fan of Eggs Benedict, but the Hollandaise had a good favor to it. It as mixed with Chrorizo and had like a queso flavor to it. The shrimp were large. They were dusted with some sort of Cajun seasoning that was a tad bit salty. The waitress did come by to refill our drinks and hear us commenting that it was a tad bit salty. She did ask if we wanted something else. She ended discounting the plate because of the issue, which she did not have to do.
Overall the experience could have been a tad bit better, but think it was.a staffing issue. Food was descent. It was not the best we have had, but not the worse. I would eat there again. It is a quaint little spot to grab for...
Read moreWe stopped by Texas Bistro for dinner on a recent Saturday after concluding some business in town. The restaurant is a small place, but very airy and cheerfully decorated. The "Texas" theme is everywhere, and fun! The restaurant had a crab cake special that evening, so we started there. OMG! What a huge plate of food. Monster crab cakes, 99% crab, very little filler, on top of boiled/smashed/fried whole potatoes, on top of pureed zucchini. Darn good! Perfectly seasoned, served nice and hot! Based on platers we saw being delivered to other tables, and our waitress recommendation, we tried the stuffed poblano pepper next ... Crazy Good! The pepper is stuffed with potatoes, corn, zucchini and black beans, and we added shrimp. Topped with melted cheese and sitting in a roasted jalapeno cream sauce, served over cilantro seasoned rice, the stuffed poblano is very worthy of its reputation as a crowd favorite. They split the dish for us to share, no charge, which is always nice. We had a glass of white wine with dinner ... the wine list, while not exhaustive, has a decent variety of varietals, very reasonably priced. We had a 5 star dinner at Texas Bistro, and will definitely stop again by when we're in the neighborhood. Easily, one of the top restaurants in the New...
