I honestly can't believe I've never left a review for Galen's. I guess it's just because it's been a fixture in my family's dining rotation for so long the thought never occurred to me.

Sadly, we actually hadn't been to Galen's in a very long time -- not sure why, probably some combination of pandemic + busy, but I'm happy to say I remedied that situation with my mom yesterday on our weekly lunch together! And it was every bit as good -- perhaps better -- as I remember it being.

The interior is kinda cute kitschy southern / fish shack chic. It's a medium size restaurant that provides table service, though you take your ticket to the register to pay.

Service is generally efficient and friendly. This time, I thought our waitress was particularly good. I think her name was Kristen, but I'm not sure.

This restaurant is no frills, country cooking. It's popular with the locals and usually does a good business at least for breakfast and lunch, which is when we tend to visit. They have traditional breakfasts, plate lunches, and barbeque. Never had the bbq but they have a smoker out back that's usually pumping out good smells. I'm always just too drawn in by the plate lunches. They have different specials each day of the week. You can opt for one of your sides to be replaced with the dessert of the day, which is always nice.

My family and I have tried a lot of the food here and I honestly don't think we've had a bad meal. Our go-tos are the vegetable plate, chicken and dressing when they have it, and the chicken tender dinner. Chicken and dumplings are good too. For sides, we like their broccoli (lots of butter and garlic), their vegetable medley (which sounds like it wouldn't be that exciting but is actually exceptional), coleslaw (you've got your choice of mayo or vinegar based -- my mom LOVES their mayo based with poppyseeds like her mom used to make :D), and what gets my vote for best fried okra in town. Don't forget to ask for ranch for dipping if you get chicken tenders or fries; it's homemade and super creamy. Their dessert of the day is usually some kind of cobbler. I like the chocolate cobbler: warm chocolate pudding and pie crust. Yum. At breakfast, the eggs, bacon, biscuits, hash browns, and pancakes are all consistently made well.

A one-off visit here may only earn 4 stars, but after many, many visits over the years, the consistently solid food and quick service has solidified this as one of our regular favorites. Give them a try if you're...

We as an organization have always used Galens to eat at, order pick up from, and buy gift cards from to give to our supporters. I've never had a complaint accept this time. We called in a pickup order for breakfast for our charities volunteers who work extremely hard and used the menu off of Facebook like we always do. The total came to around $20. When we picked up the order it was literally double that attends $40. Money we would not have spent if we had known the prices had went up that much. The money to support our volunteers does not come from grants as we are a small organization. I called to let them know the prices said something different online and the lady was extremely rude telling me that the venues changed several weeks ago and prices went up. When I asked her to please change the venues on her page she said there is nothing she can do. That is false advertisement and very much illegal. I feel like we were just taken advantage of and trust was broken by a restaurant I thought I would never have these types of problems with. We will not be going back. Plus the eggs were dry, and bacon was burnt so black we couldn't eat it. Very...

This Resturant is close to my home. I like to eat their on Sundays, they have a closed menu on Sunday. The selection is quite large. Roast beef, carrots & onions with 3 vegetables, bread. You can choose 2 vegetables and get one of their cobbler deserts. Chicken tenders, catfish fillets, beef tips, chicken & dressing, pork chops/lone, 1/2 Chicken on the grill/smoked, ribs & prime rib. A large variety of vegetables, rolls, cornbread and cobbler for deserts. I have eaten everyone of these dishes and I like every one. They have a daily menu too, on Wednesdays they have my favorite, dumplings, I order a large bowl of dumplings and one of their yeast rolls. it is a full meal for me. I like Gaylen's, I'm glad they are in the neighborhood and have such delectable food and choices. Gaylen's also has another location at 5 points in Huntsville, AL. If you come during high volume time it is worth the waite. They are also known for their evening menu of a variety of seafood. Definitely a 5...

Drove out to New Hope for breakfast (because my "go-to" place isn't serving breakfast in our current situation) and was very happy with the clean dining room, efficient service and quality food! I had their Alabama Omelette (3 eggs, cheese, choice of meat-I opted for sausage-with toast, fresh tomatoes, gravy AND a side of bacon! It was outstanding! Everything was cooked just right, coffee refills were prompt and I had enough bacon and gravy left to put on the second slice of toast to take home for an afternoon snack. Gaylen's is one of those places where the regulars show up like clockwork and everybody knows everybody, but they also made me feel at home even though it was my first time. They have daily lunch specials and Sunday brunch (I've included copies of the menus). I DO want to go back for lunch and try their chopped steak or meatloaf with some good country sides, like creamed corn, green beans or baked potato salad among others. Just good country cooking!

The REAL Southern cookin if the south. Outstanding service and that southern relaxing atmosphere that cant be bought. Our waitress Haley was not only patient as I took my time ordering, but was nice enough to point out the fried green tomatoes that I always crave are fresh here!!! Exactly 32 miles one way from my house and well worth the simple pleasant drive for a REAL meal. Dont just take the time, make the time to go and have a great meal.
