McDonald's — Restaurant in New Lenox

To my fellow Black African Americans, this is a message for you: do NOT work at this place. This is the most racist, hypocritical restaurant I have ever worked at. For starters, they will keep you in one position for an extended period. If you’re lucky, you’ll be put on dishes. All the managers are lazy and constantly insult customers who place large orders, calling them “fat” even though they’re just hungry. This is completely rude and disgusting behavior.

While they may schedule you for the days you request, don’t expect to work more than four hours. Trust me, they do not care. They use the excuse of “low labor needs” and “not enough customers” to justify this, but it’s not hard to see why customers don’t return.

I worked there for a couple of years and had to teach myself most of the skills required because they don’t provide proper training. The pay isn’t good either. Any signs or promises about promotions are lies. Some employees who have been there for over three years are still earning around $14 to $15 an hour, which is absurd. And that’s for being regular crewmember.

As a former employee, I can tell you that everything I’m saying is true. The work is half-hearted, and cleanliness is barely maintained. One of the managers who just turned 18 and they are constantly short-staffed. Many of the employees are putting in their two weeks’ notice because of how poorly they are treated.

To all the Black people out there, I strongly advise you not to apply to this restaurant, and this goes for anyone considering working here. They might delete this review because they know it...

I brought my granddaughters in for their first Happy Meal. The visit started as we walked across the parking lot and we were almost hit by a lady trying to get to the drive thru. Service was a little slow but expected during the lunch rush. Got the girls settled with their meals when the guy washing the floor came pretty close, leaving inches of dry floor. Once I pushed my chair back from the table my feet were on wet floor. The chemical smell didn't mix well with the chicken nuggets. Because the floor was wet I asked the guy running orders to customers if he could get me a drink refill (it is a MUST to have an employee get it because there's no drink station available for customer use at this location). He forgot? Walked up to the counter, couldn't ask the cashier because although she looks right at me, continues to the back? Finally was able to get the guy who had been mopping to help me get some fruit punch. At least he helped me after commenting on the discipline for the two year olds. I went through the drive through yesterday around 5-6 pm and paid for my order in change ($20.75 / my order came out to $20.35), and gave the lady a $5 bill on top of $20.75 in change (unknowing the amount handed over at the time) which left around $5.40 in change that was due to me. I guess she was annoyed that she had to count change so she got the manager to help (a male) who basically told me to get lost and didnt give me my change back because it was taking a while to count the change. I literally almost called the police because you cant just not give people their change back because its taking too long, but i didn't want to waste the police's time over $5.
