Does Peet make good coffee? Heh, asking for a friend! Why? Well, I came here with my buddy and we both got the sparkling lemonade. Not coffee. Ok, yeah. I know that I said in previous reviews that I strictly drink black coffee. Well ya know what? I'm a changed man! Ever since my young daughter accidentally drank 3 whole cups of coffee before school and almost had to be hospitalized, the Pellegrino household has decided to lay off the caffeine for a bit 🤣🤣 at first I was like, hey! What can I do! It was my daughter's fault... that sneaky little pest... not mine! Well well. Beggars can't be choosers. I also got a butter croissant. Now, I'll say this once (and I'll probably say it again)... the croissant was better than the Starbucks down the street. It's more artful, more crispy, more authentic... and it adds more to the conversation. (Shut up, Joseph!! Food can't talk! Are you on caffeine again? Good god!) hah sorry for contemplating with myself 😅it's been a long day at work and it's only noon. I digress. And the sparkling lemonade... well perhaps it was only my batch but it was bland and wasn't that sweet. You'd think that for a cafe specializing in drinks it would have better drinks but I guess the food is just too good and overshines it. But the atmosphere was great. Pretty quiet space but still has vibrant and productive vibes. I'm a fan of the architecture and spacial set up. Again, a lot better than the atmosphere of Starbucks down the street. This place has been in business for longer than my daughter has been alive. (Wait.. have I counted that right?? Don't quote me 😂😂 hey! Don't sue me! I know my daughter's birth date! For goodness sake!) Considering this place's uncrowded nature on a Friday around 4pm, it seemed a little empty. Which is why I am wondering if other hours are busy and perhaps their overall demographic consists of morning people 🤣🤣🤣 could not be me! If I didn't work a full time job where I consistently take on extra hours (of unpaid time!) I would be catching some Zzz's in my cozy room! Hah! My favorite part about this place is that it connects to the Winnetka Bookstall. It's nice to stroll around and look at books (hopefully you'll see my book in a bookstall soon! Working on it!) while having or had just had a good old coffee. (It's tempting... that bitter old trusty caffeine... don't do it... can't be safe in the household with my daughter....but I'm so tired! I haven't slept since I've been writing my book! Good god Joseph! Get a grip! You've gotta be hallucinating! Wake up!) (Sorry about that digression in the parentheses. I'm working on incorporating more artistic and ambiguous authors craft to my reviews to keep it interesting. Let me know if you're liking it.) Anyway, this place is not the greatest in the world, I'll say that much. It's not like the food and drinks are exceptional. But it's nice to switch it up every once in a while, ya hear?

Read moreStopped in for coffee and a pastry today. I was disappointed to see something that you don’t expect to see during this COVID pandemic. The pastries are there, next to the cash register, uncovered without any protection except for a low plexiglass in the front. Nothing on the top, sides or back. I mentioned it to the two girls working and they just kind of looked at me not showing any understanding of what the problem could be. They said they remove the pastries at the end of the day, whatever that has to do with it! I went ahead and bought some ground coffee and left to go to Starbucks down the street for a cup of coffee and pastry. There they had the foodstuffs completely enclosed in a plexiglass case and the staff was polite. I decided to pass this experience along because my sense is that if they do this up front, how sanitary are they where we can’t see. This 2 star rating is for the unsanitary condition and poor...
Read moreThe coffee might be good, but the service is absolutely abysmal. I placed my order through the app and stood by the counter for over 10 minutes like a fool, and not one employee bothered to ask what I was waiting for. It turns out they had placed my order by the door on the opposite side of the café, as if it was supposed to be obvious. This is utterly ridiculous. The staff is incompetent, completely untrained, and desperately needs serious training. I won't be coming back. I'll take my business to Starbucks, where the service is faster, more efficient, and doesn't involve a scavenger hunt to...
