Extremely Disappointing Experience – Staff Member Insulted My Child
Although the food and the place itself were good, we had a very upsetting and unacceptable experience because of one of the staff — an older man wearing a pink shirt — who yelled at our 8-year-old son, calling him out loud: “You are such a rude boy!”
Let me make it clear that he had absolutely no right to speak to our child like that. But I will still explain what happened so people can understand how this man treats children.
On our first visit to the restaurant, my son was very hungry. While waiting for the food, I asked him to go wash his hands to help pass the time. On his way back, he noticed the kitchen and walked toward it to check if the food was ready. The man in the pink shirt saw him and asked, “Why are you here?” My son innocently replied, “I’m hungry — I wanted to see if the food is ready.” The man brought him back to the table and explained that the kitchen is off-limits. We immediately apologized and said we’d explain the rules to him — and my son never did it again.
However, on our next visit, that same man remembered the incident and used it as an excuse to label our child as “rude” — again.
The second incident happened as we were preparing to leave. My son was sitting alone at one of the tables in the outside hall, and at the same time, I was calling him to come with us. Apparently, the man was also calling him — but my son didn’t hear him because he was focused on me. Suddenly, the man shouted: “You are such a rude boy!” — loud enough for me to hear it clearly.
Thankfully, my son didn’t notice what the man said. But I immediately went back inside to confront him — I didn’t want my son to find out that this man insulted him for doing absolutely nothing wrong. The man gave a fake apology, clearly just to avoid conflict in the restaurant, not because he actually felt sorry.
To the man in the pink shirt: You are the one who is rude. You clearly have no mercy, no empathy, and no understanding of how to treat children. You should not be working in a family-friendly place where kids are welcome.
We used to recommend this place to many friends, but now we’re telling everyone what happened — and they won’t be going there either. We will never come back.
I finally hope the management seriously reconsiders allowing someone like this to interact with guests — especially families with kids & if I can reach them out , I would definitely file...
Read moreThis can easily become one of my favorite eats on Staten Island. Lots of options to drink from the beer to cocktails and wines. I really heard a lot of different things about this place I really wouldn't tag it as a"fusion" spot , the menu is short and to the point which is great I hate going to restaurants that hand you a bible as a menu. My husband and I came here Saturday after Valentine's Day it was my first time but boy was I shocked at this lil gem of a restaurant. For apps we ordered pork shank spring rolls all I can say is OMG the homemade mango chutney taste like the best "duck sauce" I have ever eaten. We also ordered wonton goat cheese that was served with a lemon garlic sauce I wasn't to fond of these they tasted premade and I didn't feel the flavors complimented each other and the temperature was on the cool side this was my least favorite thing we ordered. He ordered a rib eye medium done it was made to perfection which I must say I been to a lot of places and it's never really medium, it came served with a creamy spinach risotto AMAZING. I ordered the mixed grill dish it came with lamb chops pork tenderloin chorizo and prawns I ordered it with mashed potatoes the flavors were delicious my prawns were a lil over grilled but everything else was on point. The red berry martini is perfect to sip on, and the Chardonnay wasn't flat which is always an issue when I dine out . The price isn't bad and the serving size is perfect . We also ordered tiramisu and Oreo crusted cheesecake which they make in house (sooooooo goooddd). The decor is very romantic and cozy it's the perfect place to take your significant other the view of the harbor is nice (we went at night) we had a window table. Very nice place I recommend this place to couples who want to go somewhere "expensive " don't want to break the bank . I will be coming back soon BUT MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A RESERVATION or else you will be waiting a long time . They have a dry bar which is just a seating area when you first walk in where u can get a drink at the bar and sit and wait. The services was great and on point Holly was really sweet and attentive which I love I hate having fetch my waitress but also hate when they come around to much she...
Read moreHolly and Fernando were both very friendly, providing amazing service! Restaurant is spacious and located by the water, giving off a romantic and intimate dining atmosphere! Now onto the main subject of the review, the food:
Tuna and salmon tartar (2/5) - Beautifully constructed, but not perfectly seasoned nor were it that fresh. The chips were half soggy, which detracted from enjoying the dish. It's decent but not too memorable.
Octopus (5/5) - Perfectly cooked and seasoned, with a great sauce that provides a creamy and savory finish! Highly recommend!
Ribeye (4/5) - Perfectly cooked medium rare, but unevenly seasoned, easy fix though with the salt shaker!
Rack of Lamb (2/5) - Great flavor, but unfortunately undercooked and was overly rare. Definitely need the sauce though, so I recommend coating it with a bit more sauce, for you can see how some pieces didn't have as much sauce nor did the plate have enough to for each of us to dip it.
Seafood Risotto (10/5) - No, that's not a typo! This is by far one of the best risotto we ever had and will definitely come back for it in the future! The only minor issue is that many of the meats from the mussel and clams fell off, so it was just a bunch of shells. Nonetheless, highly recommend it and you won't regret it!
Tuna Florentina (1/5) - Definitely one of our least favorite dish, where the tuna is so flavorless and the orecchiette was unevenly cooked, where some pieces were soft and some were hard. Don't recommend this one.
Linguine Carbonara (3.75/5) - Very rich, creamy, and seasoned well. Didn't taste bad but also wasn't anything too special; can't go wrong with it though!
Soft shell crab pasta (4/5) - Fun and delicious dish, where the soft shell crab provided a nice contrast in terms of flavor and texture! Pretty good!
Overall, things were good but not perfect unfortunately. Location and service were great as it is, but the food can be improved on. However, food came out quick and together, which is a plus! Blue definitely has amazing potential and I have no doubt they'll continue to grow and improve! Hope next time I can give them the 5 stars that I know they are definitely capable of obtaining!
