My frustration with ordering online from many Caribbean restaurants especially the Jamaican in my area, is they give you what the feel like instead of what you ordered.
Tonight I ordered Escovitch Snapper Dinner it wasn't cheaper but it wasnt pricy either. What I received was not that. I received a small sweet fried fish which seemed to have been intended to stew fish. There were no peppers and there was no heat to it. I'm not sure what it was. That was fine. I was still willing to eat the food because I was hungry.
What frustrated me was receiving a container filled with oil instead of fish gravy. I asked them to put gravy on the rice but instead some clever individual proceeds to put oil all over.....and I mean all over the food as if I wouldn't have been able to identify the difference between oil (old & rancid) and gravy for the stew fish. The food was glistening with oil. I was able to scoop it up and pour it out. The only upside was the delivery came very fast but the food was horrible in taste and presentation. They did follow one of my instructions, which was the properly secured the food by knotting the bag or stapling it shut.
Luckily UberEats refunded. However, trying to support local Caribbean restaurants always seems to fail me as the quality of food is very poor and the service is lacking. I'm just very disappointed and frustrated. I tend to order put a lot and this restaurantis literally a 10 minute drive from my house but I often shy away from ordering from here for the qualityof food thy offer. PS: I attempted to call Peppas several times but they didn't answer.
Caribbean restaurants needs to realize that no one begs for food---everything has to be paid. In the past while macaroni, potatoe salad and usual came with the food---just like in the Caribbean--they now want you to pay for those. And they act like the customer needs them instead of they needing customers to stay open.
I realize I need to go to the source. There is nothing Caribbean about Caribbean foods in America. You better off cooking it yourself or...
Read moreFirst time going to this restaurant December 25 2021 at 2:30 pm .I was so hungry I could hardly open the door. I enter there was two ladies in red serving a couple and there was two other guys waiting for their orders, I stand to the right closer to where someone who was obviously not there to cash an order. I waited patiently watching them serving food and didn’t even ask me if I wanted something.shortly after a guy came in ask if I order I said no he approach the food counter and place his order to one of the female.she took his order and start serving it. Next a lady walked in and she was curious to where the line was because everyone was scattered in the building so I moved closer to the counter and ask the same lady who was serving the guy food if that which I saw was oxtail and she said yes, not to bother her I turned to the other lady who finished dealing with the couple and ask “can I get a serving of oxtail and a cup of soup” she didn’t stop to think she just said “do you pay the line is over there”. Now out of the two person I called out that came in after me I was the first to enter the restaurant, the other guy he step in front and made his order, even after I went in the line no one came to assist me. So I turned to walk out that’s when the lady start asking me what I wanted. I continue to approach the door when a customer said it’s your turn and I told her it’s fine and I walked out. Now tell me this they never saw when I walked in but they saw when I am leaving,is that the type of customer service offer at this establishment and I don’t even know what the food taste like but that experience leave a bad taste in my mouth I have managed restaurant before and if I see this review as a manager I would have given them a warning because the same type of low Jamaican customer service they bring it everywhere and I felt bad but I didn’t want to outburst over alittle food I am paying for. Five star to Toppaz on Utica ave food and customer service 100% and I am going to call those girls and tell them to read...
Read moreI've been ordering escovitch porgy with rice and peas and stew fish gravy back to back. Each time it has been good and far better than the other Peppa's location. Today I tried the snapper instead of porgy and that's why I'm giving them 3 stars. For the price the snapper wasn't worth the value at all (or maybe I just got a small, mawga fish this time). The fish was tasty but not meaty at all. They put one thick slice of onion of top and very few carrots for the escovitch topping... it's been served with way more care and attention in the past so this was somewhat of a let down. I also had white rice mixed into my plate which I felt was a little unsanitary but I tried not to think too deep into it, maybe the serving trays are beside one another. There was no gravy on my food when I got home so I had to drive back to ask for it (it was on my order receipt) because that rice was really dry. I won't be ordering the snapper again because I feel like I wasted my money. I'm still hungry after paying $22 for a meal. Usually the people who work there are nice but the guy serving tonight had a very weird attitude so that's contributing to the 3 stars as well. My previous experiences have been 5 stars but tonight makes me hesitant to go back.
Update 4/19/24 - do you know I ordered again today and they did the same thing? After ordering delivery, I am once again driving to the store so I can simply have what I ordered and paid for. I just would love it if I could pay and enjoy my meal hot instead of this happening twice in a row.
Got there and the staff was rude. The lady told me it wasn't on her shift so she doesn't know what to tell me. It's food service... You could say "I'm sorry that happened" and rectify the issue and move on but they don't care at all. Done with this place for good. I'm sure they won't miss the business anyway....
