you've wasted too much time already, order yourself a pie now (may I recommend you get fresh garlic as a topping?), food is great, a bit expensive and can be a longer wait than advertised but more than worth it!
For the rest of you, let me start by mentioning the food is a bit on the expensive side when compared to other pizza places. It was about $24 for a large pizza with one topping. I know you can easily get a couple top pizzas and a 2 liter elsewhere for slightly less than that but don't do that unless you are on a fixed income and in that case, what are you doing ordering out? Cook dinner at home... Every penny counts! But assuming you can swing $25 for a single pie, then read on.... I ordered online using the slice app which you supposedly get a 10% discount for doing. I don't know if it actually is much of a discount as the menu at the place has significantly lower prices listed in it though there is a sign next to the menus stating the menus prices are no longer correct and that the prices have gone up so its quite possible the slice app does indeed reflect the accurate pricing, I have not tried ordering in person or over the phone so I am unable to advise you on this though it's possible it might be cheaper in person. I can however say that based on my experience, the slice app is not the most accurate source of info as it stated that my food would be ready to pickup about 15-20min after I placed it and so I arrived about 22 minutes after I ordered, 2 minutes after the app informed me that the food was cooked and ready for pickup but when I spoke to the guy behind the counter, he informed me it was going to be right out but needed a couple more minutes which as I wasn't in a rush I said no problem and began to wait. I understand things happen, especially around dinner time when restaurant can be slammed with orders but that didn't seem to factor in that day as surprisingly despite it being dinner time, the place was basically dead that day. There was one table dining in and a minute or two before my food was ready, another customer walked in to place an order, that was it, that was everybody I saw the entire time I was there and so far as I could tell there wasn't anything else cooking in the oven or waiting for delivery, perhaps I had just missed it beat the rush? so it's hard to say why the delay and even stranger why the app claimed it was ready when clearly it wasn't but after having to wait another 5-10min past when the app informed me it was done, it finally actually became ready. Now normally given the wait and high prices, this would be the end of my review and I'd advise against the place but... (I know this is long but you have just made it to the surprise twist hooray! 🎉) not this place, not today! Despite the issues I have mentioned there is something that absolutely trumps all of that... the service? Heck no! It's the food! It was absolutely delicious! The fresh garlic (IMHO, the perfect pizza topping when made correctly and correctly it was made here!) was fresh, fell chopped and plentiful in proportion but not excessive. Had it been priced in the $15-19 range I would have said that the pie was a good size being large enough to easily feed 3 or 4 people. Were it a lesser pizza, I'd have declared $24 highway robbery, especially when you factor in the delays and the price but I'm telling you, that factoring all that in, it is still easily $24 delicious... I mean don't let this declaration of deliciousness give the owner of Pizza Town a swollen head or anything, it's definitely not $25+ delicious but it is just within the upper limit of what I might occasionally spend on a pizza (0k you win, I'd even pay $25! Hope they have financing available!) Best to build in a little extra buffer time after whenever the app says it's ready. U reached the...
Read moreLET ME START OFF BY SAYING THAT IF I COULD GIVE THIS REVIEW A 0, I WOULD, BECAUSE THIS BUSINESS DOES NOT DESERVE THE ONE STAR RATING THAT THEY ARE GETTING. The owners of this pizzeria are very unprofessional and have no type of customer service skills. AND PIZZATOWN FYI, NOT EVERYONE THAT LIVES IN NEWARK IS A CROOK. THERE ARE A LOT OF HARDWORKING DECENT PEOPLE WHO ARE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY AND DO THE RIGHT THING. I AM OUTRAGED AND OFFENDED BY THE TYPE OF TREATMENT I RECEIVED BY THIS ESTABLISHMENT. Ok, so I called pizzatown and placed an order for delivery. I then noticed that i did not have enough cash to pay so I called back to pay by card. As I am giving the card info they requested billing address on the card which seemed very unusual as it was a pizza order . SO I asked my bf what address his card was under, then the man on the phone says to me , " You mean you dont know the address your card gets billed to" , and I replied that it was my bf's card and i was just verifying. FYI we are in the 21 st century people have stuff electronically mailed to them and not physical address, so if you happen to move there a slight chance you might STILL have an old address. Anyway they said to me he has to be there and present ID for delivery. I said thats fine he will be here with ID in hand. Within a min a receive a call back from the younger of the two who I assume is the owner. He asked if i called back to.pay over the phone and i said yes. He then said, " I don't understand what the back forth with this order is about". EXCUSE ME , BACK AND FORTH, ALL.I WANTED TO DO WAS PAY FOR MY ORDER. He then repeats that ID has to be presented and that the cardholder has to.be there for delivery. I said yes I already know that, he then demanded to speak to my bf. He asks for approval from my bf to use the card to which he replied yes. The owner then starts to giggle and says that this just sounds all sketchy... EXCUSE ME, SKETCHY??? I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE ORDERING ANYTHING ANYWHERE PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENCE, I UNDERSTAND THAT I LIVE IN NEWARK BUT THAT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY CATEGORIZE ME AS A CRIMINAL.THIS WAS AN ATTEMPT TO A FIRST ORDER AND IT WILL DEFINETLY BE MY LAST SHAME IN YOU...
Read moreI used to go here when my husband and I were first together. 4 years ago was the last time due to moving but we tried 2 of our old favorites, tuna melt and Sicilian. I've never be so disgusted and disappointed in my life. This place wasn't just a pizza spot, it was a memory. The tuna was old and disgusting. Lou knows the flavors, don't get this wrong. He's just not paying attention to the inventory or stopped caring. The Sicilian is the worst, I almost cried. I was trying to figure out how it went wrong. The toppings of extra cheese and pepperoni were basic but Lou know how to season it, I tried it separately and it was fine. The middle of the Sicilian was beautifully fluffy and a good seasoned dough. The top layer between the toppings and the middle of the slice was fine but when I tried a piece of the bottom of the pie, I found out where it went wrong. They didn't clean the oven. Imagine a grill or griddle full of old food and you just scrap the pieces off and instead of cleaning it, you keep cooking on it. That pizza tasted like it was cooked on a few months, if not, years of that. I'm very sad to say this is the last time ordering from here. I had to throw everything out. Lou is amazing but the fact that he stopped caring and it reflects on the food guts me. I wish you the very best, please let me know when you change the quality control and sanitary state...
