There are few restaurant choices in Newberry and very few locally owned ,which I always seek out, as is The Palms. I've eaten at Palms for lunch and dinner and have never seen the restaurant unclean. I have on occasion seen manager out front clearing tables, bringing out food, helping at bar when necessary which keeps a good flow when busy. Brenda is a great waitress and when possible I request her. She is knowledgeable of menu and always has been on top of service. Some items are a bit pricey (lunch) but there are usually specials and the food is good with plentiful portions, atmosphere has always been pleasant. The bar area appears tidy, bar is not sticky or gross and stools are comfortable. The restaurant has a nice appearance, the restroom (women's) has always been clean and stocked with soap and paper towels. There are multiple TV screens with varied channels on at a time. I've never had to wait a long time for service nor to get food. Ice tea is always fres- I hate stale or spoiled tea. A lunch favorite of mine is the salad with beef strips, the chicken salad on croissant is also a good choice. The homemade fries are fantastic but I always ask mine to be a bit more crisped which they can easily do upon request, otherwise they serve as "floppy" which is also yummy. I've had dessert twice and...
Read moreMy last visit a while back, I got the crab cake appetizers and a side of mashed potatoes. They should have the cakes as a selection on their seafood menu. They are crispy on the outside and yummy and moist on the inside. Their Ribeye is awesome and they have a Palm Spring chicken breast with bacon mushrooms and cheese that WAS (but not now) better than Outback. This recent trip, the chicken was over cooked and chewy, If you want the mustard flavor, ask for dinner honey mustard . Their sweet potato fries tasted fresh served with apple butter. We ordered a "boomin onion" and it was served raw with gooey batter, the onion was hard. There was so much egg in the Palms Salad, i stopped eating. The croissant was stale and not served with butter. We couldnt order a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. In theory you could, but the server just started socializing with people instead of taking our order. It took about 25 mins for them to seat us, and an additional 45 min for them to bring the food. I told the the onion was raw so if our food was almost done she didn't need to get another one. That was a big mistake. It was graduation time and a Friday but that is when you shine for visitors if you are organized and your staff is able to be multitaskers, but they didn't shine very...
Read moreDINERS BEWARE!! Prices have been raised at least 25%. Be prepared to wait more than an hour to get your food (if you are lucky). We arrived at 6:20 and were seated when we got there. However it was a full hour before we received our appetizer. The potato skins were thrown on a plate with bacon crumbles scattered everywhere. Only 2 small condiment containers of sour cream were included. Fully 45 minutes later, we still had no meal. The manager on duty was extremely rude and unprofessional. She had stopped by our table to see how things were going during our hour wait for the disappointing potato skins. The only thing on the table was a Miller Lite beer which I pointed out to her, no food. She laughed and asked how that beer was... At least 4 different tables were seated, served and checked out, all while we still had not received our meal. We ended up leaving without eating. I had heard a lot of complaints about the food and service over the past couple of years but wanted to give the restaurant another try. Very disappointing way to spend an anniversary celebration. Will not return and will warn others about this horrible experience. Will no longer shop at the over-priced Palms Meat Market as...
