South End Cafe and Pastry Shop — Restaurant in Newington

I've been a Newington resident for about 8 years now and I really do love going to local spots. I've commuted most of my career to New Haven and absolutely love the coffee shops so I've been looking for something similar here in town since now career wise I'm based in Hartford. But I decided to try to give this place a chance since I was born in Hartford and the name rang a bell from Franklin Avenue, not sure if it's the same owners but the familiarity and the proximity to my home was intriguing. So disappointed. I love regular real drip coffee without all the extra sugar, creams, milk etc. So disappointed they had no drip coffee at all and then I ordered their avocado toast with bacon but I received a tiny piece of toast with Guacamole spread. First time at this place and if it is for you it's like a breath of fresh air and makes your face light up the atmosphere and how friendly the staff is. The coffee and cinnamon roll was phenomenal super delicious. This place blew us away and will DEFINITELY be a regular place we go to when around the area we will be new regulars just like how anyone else who tries it I'm sure that would happen if you know good tasty stuff. On a recent "Lent/ Meat free" Friday, my husband and I stopped here for their world famous Anchovie Pizza. We were disappointed that, since their move from South end of Hartford, to Newington, they are in a "non- compete" strip mall near a pizza restaurant... they can no longer offer any kind of pizza. We settled for a spinach and potato filled bread. The Cafe owner offered to warm it up for us, then proceeded to slice, plate and serve it to us, along with a beverage! Talk about great service!!
