China Inn — Restaurant in Newton

Was hoping for a better takeout experience for the price of the food. We started with the steamed dumplings which were rubbery and soaked. The soy sauce gave them some kind of taste. I asked for a super hot kungpow chicken and it was filled with mostly bok choy, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, carrots. There was no zucchini and the chicken was also rubbery and nowhere nearly breaded or tossed in cornstarch the least bit. The spicy chicken, vegetable, stir fry thing or what whatever this was also had an odd after taste because of the plastic containers they were put in. Go with styrofoam, and ditch the plastics...

So I thought surely they couldn't mess up rice. Even though I asked for fried rice it wasn't anywhere fried but still tasted okay. For what we ordered for $5.00 bucks more we will drive to Wichita and have PF Changs instead and make it a road trip.

Thoughts: Over priced...

We have enjoyed China Inn many times in the past. The 3 star rating is partly due to those past positive experiences. However, our visit on 8/7/22 left something to be desired. The women's bathroom is dirty, even has a black ring in the toilet bowl. The floor/wall intersection under the paper towel holder is black. There were no paper towels. Our server did not talk to us, we had to ask for a straw and hot mustard and she seated us at booth 7, which is right beside another booth. There were other open booths. We could hear their entire conversation. The food was good but the fortune cookies were stale. Our server set the check down without saying a word. She never smiled either, and never asked if we needed anything. We will go back but won't sit at booth 7 again and will ask for a different server. Ours made the whole dining...

Let me start by saying the food was excellent. We had Hot and Sour soup, beef and bro and Tao’s Chicken. All tasted good but the Hot and Sour soup might have been the best I’ve had. I eat it everytime I go to a Chinese restaurant abd that one was the best. Our meal tasted great and well cooked.

The service was good with no issues and they were very friendly. No issues at all.

The atmosphere is lacking. The inside is okay with booths and is clean, but the entrance and outside makes you wonder if a good spot. We have been in Newton for a year and had avoided going before because we thought it looked shady. A coworker told us so we tried it and it was excellent. Wish we would have...
