I'm not sure what to think, but as a rule, the amount of diners eating in your restaurant speaks volumes. There were none...FIRST red flag. There were THREE tables with plates just sitting there. No one came to clean them...SECOND red flag. There were flies everywhere...THIRD RED FLAG. That should have been enough for us to turn right back around and leave, but NOOOOOO...we had to sit down. The chips and salsa came quick. That was kinda cool, but the salsa looked old. Tasted okay though. Chips were crunchy. We ordered our food - my friend got the enchilada plate, I got breakfast tacos. The eggs didn't even look real! My friend's enchilada plate looked like mess...and the beans were red. WHY WERE THE BEANS RED??!? My guess is that it was to cover up the fact that they were old. One waitess started sweeping the floor and came right up to the table we were at...SWEEPING! Couldn't that wait? Instead of kicking up junk from the floor that could potentially land in our food? Not that it would have made a difference...it was junky food.
We got out as quick as we could. $20 wasted.
As one other reviewer warned: "DO NOT STOP HERE!" The locals obviously know what we, the people passing...
Read moreA little treasure hidden in Nixon, Texas! Sometimes, surprises come around when you least expect them. This is the case with El Rodeo Mexican restaurant in Nixon, Texas. If you follow my restaurant reviews, you know that I love Mexican food. I love all food (as evidenced by my waistline 😉), but I especially love Mexican food. The problem is that most Mexican food places in Texas amount to what I call "TV Dinner Restaurants" in that most of what they serve comes straight out of a can, bag, or box.
Such is not the case with El Rodeo. From the moment you see the food come out and take your first bite, you know that this was cooked right there in the restaurant by someone who knew how to make food taste good, Mexican style! Of all of the cuisines on earth Mexican cuisine is about flavor and spice. No, not SALT, as many Texan restaurants think is a spice, but real spice—Camino, Chili, Oregano, Onion, Garlic, Lime, Vinegar etc, etc, etc. The chef at El Rodeo knows how to make food taste good, and you will notice the difference as soon as you taste their food.
I travel through Nixon once or twice a month, and if I am hungry, I know exactly where I am going to eat. I am eating...
Read moreWhere to start. The service was definitely not great. My family and I went to this place and let me say. The waitress gave us menus then walked away without taking our drink order. She was to busy chatting with the friend. I had to ask her if we could at least get the drink order going she finally came back. Took everyone's order finally food came out and I personally did not like the food. The tacos were not great and the charro beans were definitely spoiled. The waitress never went back to the table to ask if we needed refills. Definitely do...
