Very clean and homey atmosphere. Quick service, and courteous staff. Only one other person in line. Little to no wait time. At least four other locals came to eat while we were there, everyone looks very satisfied with their food. The meat was DELICIOUS and tender! The beans were amazing. The peach cobbler tastes like a homemade hug in a cup. It touched deeped down in the soul. The potato salad was creamy and dreamy. And the coleslaw, oh goodness!, the coleslaw deserves its own show. No regrets whatsoever! This is our spot now. We will drive 3-1/2 hours just to go to Nixon to spend our money here. Can't wait to come back. If you want the best BBQ for the best deal, no need to look elsewhere, come straight here!

While doing some contracting work in Nixon, I was invited to eat lunch at Pioneer BBQ, and needless to say, it was amazing! We all had different plates and they all looked delish! I had the chopped brisket sandwich and it was so flavorful and delicious. We also had the peach cobbler a-la-mode, yum, and when it was all said and done, we could hardly walk, much less work, lol!! The place is small with only a handful of tables so get there early. Also the restaurant closes as soon as they run out of BBQ so just heads up on that. So if you're in the area, go give them a visit, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Stopped in at Pioneer BBQ this afternoon for a late lunch on my way back to San Antonio and Glad I did. I ordered the Rib and Turkey plate with Firecracker corn and Pinto Beans. The Ribs where so tasty and tender perfectly cooked very moist and meaty the Turkey was smoked well and had that back yard BBQ taste I am familiar with just so tasty this lunch was the side orders where just as good I was thinking on peach cobbler but I ended up taking a 1/4 pound of Brisket for Dinner instead. If you are in the Nixon area Stop in at Pioneer for Great BBQ!

This was our 5th stop of an 8-stop BBQ road trip, and one we had been looking forward to for quite some time. We had seen some extremely good looking photographs from Pioneer BBQ on their social media posts, not to mention some really high marks and reviews by others, and couldn't wait to try it for ourselves. Located about 27 miles south of I-10 on Highway 80 (south of Luling), we would have to say this place is definitely worth the diversion if traveling between San Antonio and Houston.

We had to splurge a little here and ordered more than our usual, including a side AND dessert. Right away we could tell this place was something special - the moist brisket was cooked perfectly and had a really nice rub. The sausages were removed from their holding warmer, and finished on a flat top with a little sauce - a unique method, but it turned out great. Just enough time for the sauce to caramelize a little bit, but not so much sauce that it overpowered the flavor of the sausage either. We were also able to sample their Scorpion Sauce, a habanero-infused BBQ sauce that provided a nice kick to an occasional bite. I especially liked it with their pork spareribs. For the side, of course we selected the Firecracker Corn (who could resist with a name like that). A fresh kernel cream corn, with heat from jalapenos, poblanos and pepper, but not too much cream. Just enough to temper the heat a little.

To end this memorable visit, we did something we almost never do - ordered dessert. Amy tempted us with her smoked peach cobbler (alas, no Blue Bell), that had spent at least a little time in the smoker. You could pick up the smoke in the upper crust, but it wasn't so much that it overpowered the dish. This cobbler reminded me much of what my grandmothers made while I was growing up, with alternating layers of pastry crust and sweet peaches.

It's hard to believe Shawn Collins and his spouse Amy have only been running this place for a little over a year. Pioneer BBQ should be a shoo-in the next time the TMBBQ Top 50 list...

Finally stopped at this shop after passing by on my way to Seguin numerous times. I left kicking myself for not having stopped sooner. Great atmosphere! Especially if you’re into the “ good ole days” feel of a small space with an open counter and the smell of awesome BBQ. The ladies working the counter were super friendly. But the real test was the BBQ and it did not disappoint. The brisket was spot on but I was most impressed by the chicken which I personally think is one of the most challenging proteins to get right on the pit. Me and wifey are already making plans to go back even though it’s...
