Unfortunately, while the food was good, it wasn't enough to overshadow the bad taste our experience with the cashier left us.
Food: Garlic Knots w/ Knotty Sauce, Spicy Pepperoni Pizza, and Potato Pie
Service: The person working the register seemed off-put by us. When I couldn't add a hot honey sauce when I ordered online, I tried to purchase some during pickup. They ended up being out, making sense of why I couldn't add it online. After the cashier explained they were out, they further commented "A for effort though... good for trying but we're out". I wasn't sure of the intention of their comment. I questioned myself and decided to pay it no mind. My thoughts changed after we asked for plates, parmigiana cheese, and hot pepper flakes. We were directed to the cans on the countertop next to the plates, but the can that presumably held the cheese and pepper flakes was empty. (For context, it's important to know that we asked for parmigiana cheese) When we asked again, they responded, "No, but you can have one pecorino cheese." I thought maybe it was different, I let my curiosity get the best of me which I came to regret. The cashier explained that it's similar but really it's just "better to be respectful and ask for it by its actual name." As for the pepper flakes, we got a shrug of the shoulders and an "I guess we're out." At this point, we didn't bother asking them to check in the kitchen. It was hard to ignore the cashier's manners towards us.
Atmosphere: I'd like to have given the atmosphere 5 stars, but our interaction with the cashier ruined the vibe. It was uncomfortable waiting inside, even though it was only for a few minutes. I found the books and artwork to be lovely. I wanted to flip through the pages of some of the books while we waited but resisted out of concern I'd be scolded by the cashier for...
Read moreI got to try Lo Mo a few times as a pop-up and was super impressed then, so I was glad to hear when they got a brick & mortar shop!
For thin & crispy pizzas where the quality of the ingredients really shines through, they’re a new go-to spot. Even just their spicy pepperoni and margherita pizzas are top notch, but for me one of the highlights of their menu is definitely their seasonal pizza. When I first stopped by for their soft opening I took a chance on the Summer pizza (zucchini/corn/lemon) and was amazed at how it was possible that a pizza could taste “refreshing” (not to mention stupidly good).
Tonight I tried out their new Fall pizza, topped with delicata squash, prosciutto, pine nut, shallots, and a balsamic glaze. So different but also delicious & perfectly evocative of the season! I also appreciate how the pizzas are big enough that you feel comfortable sharing with someone else, but not so big that you couldn’t down one on your own if you really wanted to.
Service is warm & friendly and I look forward to seeing how the business continues to grow!
*p.s. get the garlic knots. Soft & buttery without being greasy, and the best part is the ricotta/chili dipping sauce...
Read moreInitially, my impression was mediocre, all things considered. The product speaks for itself. Is definitely the best pizza I've had in Norfolk. I ran into slight issues with a singular aspect of the service i received, but management was swift in comforting and correcting, so i omitted the negative aspects of this review in this revision, as I'm sure it won't be an issue going forward. My experience outside of that was great. That spicy pepperoni pizza is immaculate. One of the chefs came out to deliver our pizza and i was looking at the cool pizza cook book that yall had, and he was so awesome. He us clearly very passionate about pizza and he brought the experience up. We got the spicy pep, of course, and it lived up to the hype. The little ricotta swirls are so freaking cute and thoughtfully applied to each pie. My aoi's (take with a grain of salt, obvi. What works works, and im clearly the outlier, since yall sell out of stuff so quickly.) The salad dressing was VERY acidic for my taste, and the cheese cake wasn't my get down, but my husband LOVED it. We had something similar at the trump tower in dc a few years ago, but the fresh strawberries here made it a lot...
