I've only been fortunate enough to eat here one time. But let me tell you how magical the experience was. Since I was about 13 years old, I've loved reubens. People started telling me that a woman cooked reubens at the old old old shady grove gas station that was down the road from my home. I kept meaning to go, but I never did, and then it closed. I thought I missed the opportunity for the glorious reuben.
Then I heard about Heidi's ugly cakes, i heard they had a fantastic reuben. It was on my list of places to go. Then, I heard a rumor it was the same lady that had cooked them at the shady grove store. After hearing that, I put it as a top priority to go. I went the next week. I met the lady, and asked her if she used to cook at the shady grove store. She said indeed that was her.
I told her that I had been wanting to try her reuben for over 10 years. She was very happy to hear about it. She was super kind and gracious, and funny too. She then proceeded to cook me the reuben that I had been building up anticipation for for over 10 years.
And I was not let down. Do you know how hard it is to not let someone down with a product they have anticipated for over a decade? It is almost impossible. She didn't let me down.
If you want to have the best reuben of your life, there is a very high chance that you'll get it at Heidi's Ugly Cakes. On top of that, this woman is probably the best cook in the twin lakes area that actually has a restaurant. If someone wants to see what the best local food of the area is, I tell them they need to eat here before their vacation is over.
There are other restaurants in the world that I recommend as highly as this one, but it is not possible for me to recommend a place more than this. This is the best food I've had in the state of Arkansas, without question.
If you haven't been here yet, don't be like me and wait 10 years. Put it on your list of priorities, and go have...
Read moreokay so we drove through this little town after we left another little town looking for food there were only a couple options one had already closed for the day at 1:30 and this was one of the two options left at first we were like I don't think so but my husband was starving so we went ahead and went in... Good thing we did.
hottie actually is the owner and operator of ugly cakes and sandwiches and while the weight is kind of long to get your order in during peak times and getting your food it's worth it.
One thing you won't want to miss is the potato salad this is some award-winning State Fair level potato salad. I chose to get a hamburger my husband got a sandwich can't remember which one he got because I had quite a few just odd combinations whatever but he really enjoyed it quite a bit and my burger was good.
we also had a couple hand pies while we were there he had cherry and I had blackberry and they were both excellent.
If you happen to chance through here between mountain view and mountain home definitely give it a stop...
Read moreThe first time we ate at Heidi's a few years ago, we were camping with friends at Norfolk Lake. A local told us she made delicious sandwiches and cinnamon rolls. She was in her old place and we had been advised it was small and to go early because noon was hectic. We were astounded at the quality of food. We ate there often the two weeks we were camping. She uses the greatest white bread to make my favorite, a BLT sandwich. We hadn't been able to get back to Norfork, since that first camping trip, but were recently in Tulsa visiting our daughter and we drove over to Heidi's to pick up our call-in order of six cinnamon rolls and a key lime cake. (An all day trip 4-hours one-way). It was noon and no tables available so we didn't eat lunch, just picked upmour order and left. After we ran out of cinnamon rolls, we decided we would come over to this area to be closer to the lakes and Heidi's. We are usually on our way to South Dakota, where we spend the summer, this time of the year. We believe that...
