Review of 'The Hot Bowl'
Ingredients: whole rolled oats, blueberries, banana, walnuts, ground flax seeds, cinnamon, honey. Staff welcomes substitutes & additions. The presentation was lovely I guess; I mean I could tell there was thought put into it, but I'm color blind and I'm a dude so I don't really get into that sort of thing.
I got the large hot bowl because I like to eat, and I had it without substitutions or additions. The oats were large, fresh, and served warm. I am not a connoisseur of blueberries, but I do know produce, and these blueberries were pristine, plump and ripe. The banana was perfect: sweet but firm. The ingredient that I was most impressed with however was the walnuts, which were huge English num-nums served rough, raw and unsalted. The blueberries and walnuts were of superior quality, comparable to what you would find in a high-end restaurant in a big city. For those who are new to the health food thing, the relevance of the flax seeds being ground is that the omega-3 fatty acids for which flax seeds are prized lie beneath a tough, non-digestible seed coat. Grinding the flax seeds increases the surface area of the fibrous seed coat and releases the omega-3s for absorption into the bloodstream. Some may argue that flax seeds taste better ground, but I've personally never found them to contribute much in the way of flavor. I'm not a big fan of cinnamon, but I found the addition to be subtle and unimposing. There was just enough honey to offset the bitter of the oats. Because all of the dishes are made to order, you can ask for more or less cinnamon and honey as your taste dictates. I'll be honest, I'm not much of a health food nut, but I do love the textures and flavors that only fresh foods possess. Hatteras Bowls delivers these textures and flavors proficiently with...
Read moreLove this place. I was so happy to find someplace that was whole foods plant-based friendly!!!! We eat here everyday we're down here. Today I had the Fix Toast and a Green Room bowl. I shared the toast with my sister because it's too much to eat for one person but I really wanted to try it. Both were excellent, although, there was too much coconut flakes but, that's just my taste. I just picked some of it out. You walk up and order at the window and then patiently wait for your order to be called. They have places for you to sit outside as there is no area for inside seating. Be aware that this place is in a small area so there is limited parking but don't let that stop you from stopping here! You won't be...
Read moreWe were visiting family at St. Clair Landing and this place was up the road. I had it 2x for a brunch. I got the bermuda bowl with protein base. And then some other add ons. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! my kid didnt eat all of his so i put it in the freezer for me later lol. I also tried the lavender iced mocha as well, it was good, but I like my coffee strong, and this was veey light like it was watered down and too sweet for my liking. Nonetheless, everything was fantastic! This is my new favorite place! Especially because they also offer gluten free options unlike a lot of other places on the island. I am gluten intolerant, so i appreciate businesses creating...
