Definitely recommend HISS (Hatteras Island Surf Shop) for kite boarding lessons and water sports activities. We rented the house beside the shop for the week and it was super cool to shoot over and take a lesson when the wind/weather allowed. Barton, Reider, Michael and Alex were so flexible and would contact us via text for best times/options for lessons. They were even willing to take us out in the rain as our week had a lot of rainy days. During our week stay, my son who is 12 and myself, 47, took 2 kiteboarding lessons and started our kite boarding journey. My daughter, also 12, and I took eFoil lessons and that was awesome too. A laid back approach to life which is really nice to experience in this ever so fast paced world. We appreciate all the attention and advice from the team. We will be back for sure! I bought a new Airush kite online from Reider and Barton. I’m getting back into kiting after a 6 year sabbatical, but this is probably my 10th or 11th kite, and I worked at a windsurf shop on Maui for many years… Father and son, they were both super informative and stoked on the sport, with different perspectives. They took great care of me, and always responded, (even on tour in South Africa). Their prices and customer service are better than anyone else’s, (including the manufacturer’s). These guys are the real deal! A Mom and Pop’s surf shop, living the dream for 40 years! Definitely worth supporting them, keeping the stoke alive! Thanks...

Great experience!!! Took surfing lesson over Memorial Weekend with Jay who was an excellent teacher- very enthusiastic and encouraging/helpful without being at all bored or condescending despite me being a complete beginner. His instructions were consistently super clear, starting me out on land with basic how-to's, went into the surf with me (despite the chilly water) and provided ongoing pointers but did not over teach or make things too complicated. I highly recommend him if you are looking for surfing lessons...
