We moved into town a little while ago and have enjoyed O-Ya a few times before. Unfortunately, this past Saturday will be our last time ordering here. I arrived 15 minutes after my food was supposed to be ready and it still was not ready. I completely understand that happens, but my interactions with the staff at the cashier made me never want to come back here again. After waiting an additional 5 minutes on one last item (now making our food 20 minutes late), I heard another staff member keep asking the cooks to make the last plate we were waiting for, all the while our other food was sitting out on the counter getting cold. After a few more minutes I asked the person at the front desk if he wouldn't mind remaking one of the orders because it's for my pregnant wife and she isn't supposed to eat food that's been sitting out for a while (no less for over 20 minutes, plus we still had a 15 minute drive home). After I explained this he didn't say sorry or even address what I said, he simply laughed at me, shook his head and told the cooks to remake the order. Then to make matters worse, again without responding to anything I had just asked, he takes our bag off the counter, and proceeds to bring it into the back, while nonchalantly kicking the bag. I assume this was some sort of tantrum response to my request. He ended up placing the bag in a temperature controlled container, which I appreciated, but not responding to me and kicking my food bag repeatedly, even if it was nonchalantly is beyond rude. Finally, we are given our food at a total of 25 minutes late. When the food was handed off, there is not a murmur of an apology nor even eye contact. Additionally, when we got home two of the plates were incorrect: either missing items or were made incorrectly. It's rare that I will write a review on poor staff or customer service, but frankly this ruined our night. We won't be ordering from...
Read moreAfter reading some of the negative reviews for this restaurant, we were very skeptical and hesitant to try it. However, the descriptions and pictures of the food on the restaurant website were too tempting not to! I'm very glad we listened to our gut! We went for lunch on Saturday and were promptly greeted and our food was out to us within 20 minutes of ordering. We ordered their 1/2 Peruvian chicken plate with maduros, black beans, and cilantro rice. The chicken was perfectly cooked! With tender meat, but perfectly crispy skin. The maduros, rice, and beans were all cooked and seasoned nicely. It was so much food, my husband has made 3 meals off of it! I ordered their vegetable bowl. It was also delicious! The vegetables were perfectly seasoned and cooked and it was enough for me to make 2 meals off of it. We also ordered a side of tostones. I'm not exaggerating when I say that these were some of the BEST tostones I have ever eaten and I've eaten tostones in several parts of Central America and the U.S. They were so tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Amazing texture and flavor! The service we received was flawless and everyone from start to finish was very polite. It was a nice afternoon so we sat outside under the awning on the patio. The atmosphere was wonderful. While we didn't sit inside, the inside of the restaurant was decorated in a very cozy but modern style with pillowed benches for seating and vibrant colors. I give this restaurant 5/5 stars for excellent food and friendly, prompt service. We WILL be...
Read moreI went for Sunday lunch for the first time. I expected to have a nice experience, but was unpleasantly surprised. The menu for lunch had about 3 items on it. We got the lunch tacos, which came with 2 ripped leaky tacos that had barely anything in them and did not taste very good. Will not come back.
UPDATE: I have had to change this review from a 2-star to a 1-star because of my experience below.
I decided to give O'YA another try. I came for dinner this time, in hopes of a more diverse menu and better quality. I was going to order the Slow Roasted Peruvian Chicken, and asked if it was gluten free, just to make sure. the server replied, yes, as long as a possible contamination from the fryer is not an issue. I was very confused, and inquired to why the Slow Roasted Chicken would be in the fryer. The server went to the kitchen and came back out to tell me that the oil had just been changed, so I would not get any gluten in my chicken. I asked if it was usually fried, unlike the menu describes, so the waiter checked again with the kitchen and came back with a 20 minute wait time, as they obviously do not tell their customers that the Slow Roasted Chicken is in fact not slow roasted at all, but deep fried. I was very disappointed, and there was nothing else on the menu I had an interest in. I have given this restraunt it's more than fair chance, and would caution anyone who wants...
