Randy's Restaurant — Restaurant in North Carolina

Randy's is a place of smiling faces and a locals' favorite. Most of the food is good. Best country style steak in town. However, they do have some major flaws. They serve soft drink refills out of a pitcher instead of taking your cup to the tap like other restaurants do. 90% of the refills they give me are not fresh and some are downright dead and nasty tasting. They will take a pitcher that has dead soft drink in it and add a little fresh soft drink to it thinking that it is going to freshen it up. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. If there is any dead drink whatsoever in the pitcher, it kills any fresh drink that is added. Another major flaw is that they leave metal shavings in the food. They bake potatoes in aluminum foil and then they cut through the aluminum foil with a serrated knife. Obviously that leaves metal shavings in the potato. I'm surprised that they don't know better than to do something like that. They don't have butter. They don't have WiFi. Don't order the home fries. They burn them. They are also a little pricey. Fantastic service, delicious homecooked food including REAL mashed potatoes, daily specials including Ribs and Fried Chicken. We have had the breakfast, lunch and dinner and have NEVER had a bad dish. We order takeout once a week, just about, and usually the person answering the phone knows who we are and what our order will most likely be (chicken pie double mashed potatoes with gravy.. Lol). Stopped by for lunch since we were in the area. We have noticed the parking lot always has cars, which is usually a good sign. This is totally a small town type of diner. There were 10 “meats” listed on the whiteboard and 18 “vegetables” on another. Lots of diners were enjoying plate lunches, subs and sandwiches upon our visit. We opted for the Ham and Cheese Sub and the Cheese Steak with a side of fries. The hubby originally ordered the Pork Rib Sandwich, but they had already sold out of it.
