Spakes used to have amazing food. Now, however, it was horrible. We ordered for 5 people, 3 hamburger steak plates, 1 stew beef plate, and a double cheeseburger. Every single item of meat was dried out like it was mummified, all 3 hamburger steaks were so burnt on the bottom that you couldn't cut them with a fork, they were literally inedible, even after a vain attempt to at least cover them in ketchup, since there sure wasn't any gravy on them. The macaroni was mush, pintos tasted like they came out of a can, the only thing I can say was good was the fried okra. The menu prices had also changed and they failed to update the online menu, prices were a good $3-$4 higher than the online menu, and the online price was not honored. I understand inflation and that the cost of everything has changed, but the food should reflect that. Had it been good, I would not have cared to pay those prices. The girl who took our order was not rude, but sure not friendly, and the wait for a take-out order was almost 40 minutes, and it wasn't because there were a lot of customers. Love going to eat at Spakes! It's an iconic Rutherford County restaurant. Im grateful they have good home cooking, however, my girlfriend wanted their fried livers, she hadn't had any in a long time and was very exited! It's sucked when the waitress told her they were out but it happens so she moved along and said ok I'll have Fried Chicken, was to again that they were out of that as well. They offer 5 meats to choose from and several vegetables if u want to get the 1 meat, 2 vegetable meal or whatever but to be out of 2 out of 5 meats @ mid-day was not cool. So she of course chose something different. The food took a long time to come out due to being busy with alot of call in orders. Once the food arrived it was cooked perfect and was delicious 😋 we both got hamburger steak, I had mashed potatoes,fried okra and green beans and she had Mac n cheese, fried squash and slaw and she said hers was awesome too! Overall good experience, would've given 5 stars if not for being out of alot of meats! Nobody wants to have to settle for a 3rd choice meat 🤦‍♂️ maybe next time they will have what she wants for...

I have been eating here my whole entire life! Service and food are always exactly as I expect it to be. Delicious food and friendly service. Wait time is a little longer than I'd like on carry out but that's to be expected when it's in such demand! The hamburger steaks and salads are wonderful, the stewbeef dogs are too fantastic to describe with words, footlong hotdogs, Chuck wagons and cheeseburgers are equally delicious. My biggest complaint is that I can never decide which one 'm gonna get . One thing is for certain, it will most definitely be along side a peanut butter milkshake . Makes no sense how anyone could rate less than 5 stars and if so, I say go back...
