Our last Christmas dinner for ourselves found us traveling to Gordon Ramsay's Steak. After a frantic run across KC in rush hour traffic, we pulled up to the valet with 10 minutes to spare before our 6pm reservations.

Yes, the restaurant is in Harrah's Casino...but as soon as you enter the doors, that is all forgotten. The greeters tend to us immediately, confirm our reservation and table and then you get a little tour and info on the way. The aging cooler is right there for all to view, as well as the wine cellar. All very nice touches.

It's a contemporary feel, upscale but not stuffy. You can show up dressed to the nines or as casual as jeans and a button down (that was me btw).

Grant, our server, introduced himself, asked if we had been at a GR restaurant before and more importantly if we had any time constraints. Plan on a nice, more formal paced meal. 2 hrs pretty easily. He went over the drink menu...I ordered the Pendergast and Lynda had a Buffalo Wild.in the Wheat. Both great cocktails. The Pendergast gives homage back to KC with it being a Reiger based drink. Similar to a Manhattan. Lynda's was a Buffalo Trace cocktail, little sweeter and this ridiculously good slice of orange with brown sugar caramelized on it, think the crunchy sugar topping on a creme brulee.

We were there for the whole experience. Started with 2 Caesar salads, which when making the salad each large Romaine leaf is individually coated /brushed with the dressing and served with a Scotch egg. Nice salad, little lighter Caeser, very crisp and refreshing and that Scotch egg...delicious!

Next were the appetizers. We've heard raves about the lobster risotto and with good reason. Quite simply, it's delicious. 4oz lobster tail over a bed of creamy risotto with just a touch of garlic. Great risotto worthy of all the raves. We also got the pork belly appetizer. This is a braised piece of pork belly, fork tender with a cherry based glaze served over polenta. Omg, this appetizer is just as incredible as the risotto...that rich braised pork belly with the sweet cherry remoulade over the polenta, mmmm-mmmm!

Lynda got the 25oz bone in ribeye with spinach, while i had to try the Beef Wellington that Gordon Ramsay is so famous for. So here is the thing: the steak and beef quality is top notch. There isn't a bunch of gimmicks to enhance the beef, it's that carefully chosen and the flavor shines through perfectly. I've said this about a couple other places and Gordon Ramsay Steak is in that category. The beef is all aged, wonderfully tender and very robust flavor. The 25oz bone in ribeye is huge. Its actually a very reasonably priced steak for being Prime and such a delicious 25oz steak. Sauces are available, we tend to be purists and enjoyed the steak without any of the available sauces. Her ribeye was fork tender and flavor off the charts delicious. My Beef Wellington had imo the best tenderloin I've ever had in a Wellington. Add to that the puff pastry that was crunchy, flaky without a hint of soggy...this is a great Beef Wellington.

You'd think with all of that we would call it done, but nope...I told Lynda we were all in. Had to have dessert even if it killed us.

Next thing I know, we have a sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate pot de creme. About the chocolate pot...the best I can do to describe it is copy and paste the description and hope all of the different flavors going on make sense. Here it is: milk chocolate custard, caramel mascarpone, dark chocolate brownie, caramelized cocoa nib, and espresso meringue. Just call it this total sweet, rich chocolate symphony with a slightly salty finish that balances out all the sweet.

As far as the sticky toffee pudding, just order it. I don't care if you are full and can only eat like a bite or 2...its worth it. It's not like any chocolate cake or toffee/caramel based cake I've had. Well actually cake isn't really a proper comparison...its lighter. Its decadently rich with the toffee topping and then the brown butter ice cream, you have to experience...

The restaurant was a lot smaller than I expected, maybe 10-tables. The decor is modern, minimal — the restaurant was very clean, and the bathrooms are spotless. I wasn’t crazy about our table being right next to the entrance, but as the night went on our attention turned to the food, and it was fine. We had reservations for 6, greeted with a friendly smile, and seated immediately. The hostess, server, and table attendant were exceptional. The service not only met, but exceeded our expectations. The server knew every detail about the menu. The timing was perfect for each course. Nothing was rushed giving plenty of time to enjoy, digest, and cleanse the palate between courses. I had read other reviews about the portions being too small for the money spent. I beg to differ. The sides, for example, are family style. The kids ordered French Fries. They wanted 2-orders and our server told them one order was enough for 3-families jokingly. I’m so glad we took her advice. They brought Mount Fry to the table (quite literally ā€œa mountain of French Fry’s). Good grief, it had to be the equivalent of 6-large fries at any fast food joint. I must say, I’ve never had fries like these — crisp, golden, and seasoned to perfection. There were so many that we had a large carry out box to take home. I ordered the Lobster Risotto— rich, creamy, beautifully presented— I’ve been dreaming of this risotto since the first time I watched Hells Kitchen. It was even better than I had imagined. On a side note about portion sizes— you could eat that appetizer as dinner and be completely satisfied. When we return, I would order it for dinner and add a scallop accompaniment (they give 2-pieces). I ordered scallops for dinner — the sear was on point — the size and quality worth the money spent — the presentation impeccable. There was a bit of graininess to them — if 4.5 stars was an option, that’s what I would have scored this review for that reason. My husband had the signature Beef Wellington meal where the menu was planned out. He’s not one to eat salad, but he gave it a chance. I couldn’t believe it — the arugula citrus is an absolute hit with him and a high point of his meal. Everyone else had the American Wagyu Fillet, my God it just melts in your mouth. You don’t need a steak knife — fork and butter knife will do. When the food is served, it comes with a team of people who plate the sauces right before you. Everything about the service is a cut above anything I’ve ever experienced in Kansas City. If you order the signature meal you get to keep your menu with a photo of Gordon Ramsey as a souvenir — a thoughtful touch we appreciated. The deserts — I would honestly go there just to eat Cheesecake!!! I’ve eaten a lot of cheese cake, but nothing as good as this. The Cheesecake Factory is ā€œMcDonaldsā€ compared to this. I can’t describe it with words— if you love cheese cake just go and get some, you deserve it. I didn’t think I would like bread pudding— I was so wrong. It was more like a little cake with ice cream. Everything we ate was amazing. Another note about portions — 6-people had 8-boxes to take home. I found the portions generous. Our bill for 6 with cocktails, appetizers, sides, main course, and dessert was $935 (that included at $200-tip). It’s expensive, but you absolutely get what you pay for. I could spend half at Trezo for a similar menu, but it’s not the same. I’m not crazy about the smoky smell of the casino being right there. Due to Covid, no valet parking. The Voodoo lounge is just across from the restaurant, but nothing was going on for Valentines Saturday…? I thought that was odd. The restaurant is too good for Harrahs Casino. I wish it were at Briarcliff Village near Trezo and Piripo’s. All that being said, I...

This is my far the best dinner I've ever had, it was amazing and the food has given me a whole new perspective on how good food can be.

The service was second to none and our waitress was attentive, kind and personable. Dinner service here is an experience and is worth the time spent. We were there for a four course meal and it took about an hour and a half. I can say without a doubt that the food was incredible and worth it. I cannot believe that food could be that good.

I know that price is Important to many people, and this definitely is a high end restaurant and you will pay high end prices. But my partner and I both found that the menu online included prices. We planned and went in with a really good idea of what we were going to get so we knew ahead of time how much to budget. We didn't account for the bottle of wine but honestly that was comparable to most steak houses bottle prices. You will spend quite a bit if you go for the full experience. I would say that the price is justified beyond a reasonable doubt and the overall food and service are exceptional and validate the price completely.

So as for the food I cannot say enough good things. I had no idea that food could be so good and I appreciated all of the small things that went into every course. I went with my partner and We both agreed that this was one of the most outstanding dinners we have ever had. For the first course I gor a Arugula and Citrus salad. The absolute stunning flavors the citrus added were unmatched and also not overwhelming. I had never had arugula but I can say that I am a big fan of arugula. For the second course I got the scallop risotto and my partner got the famous lobster risotto which lived up to all the hype. I can say without a doubt that I had never known what perfect risotto was until I had this risotto and the absolute range of flavors given by every ingredient is unmatched and the texture was absolutely perfect!! My partner told me she had always thought she didn't like lobster but in fact it was never prepared correctly and the lobster was absolutely perfect. Each of the risottos also had hints of difference and their own unique tastes. For the main course I got the famous beef Wellington and my partner got the 8oz prime beef fillet. The beefe Wellington is Gordon's signture dish and there's a reason for that. The wellington was cooked to absolute perfection and was a set of flavors that I can say worked perfectly. I have never had anything like it. The beef fell apart in my mouth, the crust was so flaky and crispy! The potatoe puree was incredible and the carrots were amazing. The steak my partner got was perfectly cooked at medium rare and had this amazing flavor and the sear gave it this sweet and salty flavor I didn't even know you could get from a steak. For desert we split a sticky toffee pudding. I had never had one before and I can say without I doubt that it was the most amazing dessert I've had and there's no match to the sweetness and creaminess of the fish.

The overall experience was just unmatched and the food was second to none. I cannot wait to come back and do this again someday. Definitely recommend it to anyone who has a very special occasion...

The Voodoo lounge is just across from the restaurant, but nothing was going on for Valentines Saturday…? I thought that was odd. The restaurant is too good for Harrahs Casino. I wish it were at Briarcliff Village near Trezo and Piripo’s. All that being said, I will return.
