It's been ~6+ years since my family and I ate at this restaurant - I used to eat here a lot when I worked on this side of the city. In fact, it's been so long that I decided to bring my family, along with a couple out-of-town friends to this restaurant on 16 May 2024 to experience their buffet for all time's sake. Needless to say, I should've called before arriving because as soon as I walked in, I noticed that they no longer have the buffet - my jaw hit the ground in shock and disappointment after I realized this. Regardless, I didn't want to leave since our friends were already en route and I figured why not try their table service since that part of the experience is new to us.
Throughout the evening we had two servers; Amy was the first, and then it transitioned to another server (Breanna, I think). Both servers did a remarkable job all night; they were highly efficient at what they did and extremely professional/friendly. The atmosphere was the typical truck stop in the evening; however, it was a little quieter than expected. Between EDC going on and the time of the day, that's probably the contributing factor to the limited customers. I suspect that during breakfast and lunch timeframes, this restaurant has a high volume of foot traffic.
Between everyone at the table, we ordered Ultimate Nachos and Chicken Quesadilla for our starters; Grilled Chicken Sandwich w/side of Tomato Soup and Broccoli; Southwest Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich w/Cheesy Potato Casserole; White Fish Dinner w/Rice Pilaf, Broccoli, and side of Onion Rings; and Chef Salad for our main entrées. Everything was decent; the star entées/items were the Chef Salad, Chicken Quesadilla, Onion Rings, and Ultimate Nachos. Whereas the broccoli was less than adequate because it was extremely soft (had a soggy texture/consistency). This was unfortunate because my daughter and I were looking forward to eating a bright green (slightly crunchy) broccoli as depicted on the menu picture(s).
Overall, I'd say this restaurant is ok, as reflected in the 3-star rating. I know some may disagree but I felt the buffet experiences at Iron Skillet were far more memorable compared to the sit down table service - dang you 2020 global event! The price-to-quantity/quality ratio was reasonable and as mentioned earlier, the service was the highlight of my recent visit. I'm not sure if I would ever return in the future because I mostly ate here due to the buffet; however, I will still recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through and want a decent...
Read moreFood is ok. The salad you get has been sitting in the refrigerator on a plate under saran wrap all day so you can Imagine how that looks. Wilted lettuce, cucumber turned color, and rotten cherrie tomatoes. No croutons, 1/4 of a teaspoon of cheese. Lovely right? Total cost to restaurant = $ 0.14 cents. Fish was old. Been sitting in the refrigerator for about a week. Mashed potatoes tasted like chalk. The garlic toast that comes with every dinner has now been permanently discontinued per corporate as well as the soup and salad bar we used to get. Crazy thing is now that they have taken away all that from us the menu prices have actually gone up. Their motto is give the customer less but charge them more I guess. That's what their doing anyhow. There was only 2 waiters and 1 cook working at rush hour dinner time so it is what it is. No one wants to work anymore in the USA so everything is now subpar. There is no other food choice at this truck stop so your stuck with it. Dunkin Donuts is only open in the early morning and this restaurant closes at 8pm also. After 8pm I guess us truck drivers can just eat dirt and...
Read moreOn what is probably one of the busiest weekends of the year in the area, they had most of the restaurant closed off. There was a sign directing people to seat themselves but all the empty tables were dirty when I walked in — with the exception of a ten person table near the entrance.
The shift leader walked around wearing a backpack the whole time for some reason. After sweeping the floor, leaving the restaurant, and walking back in, she came to my table to refill my drink. I’ll assume she washed her hands wherever she went when she left.
This is the only time in my life I’ve ever seen people’s food delivered to them on a semi clean utility cart that’s probably used to clear dirty dishes from tables.
I watched one person come in and clean his own table to sit down; and another person sit at a table with a dirty cleaning rag on it.
The place itself is nicely decorated and well lit.
I ordered the fish with a salad and steamed broccoli. The broccoli was half steamed...
