Typically I tend to stay clear of writing negative reviews, but to be clear this isn't all negative.
The murals and art work were beautiful.
The atmosphere was busy, cramped, and so incredibly loud our ears were ringing when we left.
The prices were a little higher than we typically pay for Mexican food in Iowa, but portions were decent.
The food, however, fell flat. We ordered tacos campestres and pollo loco, both typically flavorful dishes. Even with the hot salsa that came with the tacos they were still left short of flavor. Not sure salt would have helped, but that's not on the tables. The beans tasted watered down somehow. No flavor of anything but beans and water. Added salsa, didn't help. Rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry or too overcooked. The pollo was unseasoned. We didn't finish either dish or even box then to take them home - and we always take our leftovers.
The best part of the experience was the service. Seated quickly (it was busy), served quickly, food came out hot and in a timely manner, servers/managers were very positive and kind and attentive.
I want to note that typically we would say something to management if there were issues with the food, but it was so loud that we could not even hear ourselves just across the table...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this highly rated Mexican restaurant for the first time. In several years. It's part of a strip mall and has no outside seating. We found the interior decor very attractive. We were waited upon immediately and things got off to a good start. We enjoyed a happy hour Margarita, and got our entrees very quickly. We ordered Choripollo and Pollo Loco from the specialties menu. The food was tasty and attractively presented, although we both thought the queso was a little too salty for our taste. We got boxes for our leftovers and ordered empanadas for dessert. That's when things went downhill. We waited about 20 minutes. No empanadas, and no attention from our waiter. We flagged down another server and asked if perhaps our empanada order had been lost. She picked up our check and vanished. We waited another 15 or 20 minutes. No empanadas, and no attention from any server. We finally got up, tracked down yet another server, got a new copy of our check, got the empanadas removed from said check, paid and left. It was an unhappy end to what had been a promising dinner. This restaurant seems to be very popular and is generally well reviewed, so I can only assume that our experience was an outlier. I...
Read moreThis is truly one of the best restaurants in the area! The food is consistently good and the service is top notch! During COVID, they stayed open and offered carry-out service and every time I went to pick up my food, there was a line outside the building but it moved very quickly. More recently, I had recommended this place for my company's luncheon and they were able to get 22 of us served and out the door in 1hr. Everyone loved their meals and once again, they proved that they can offer great food and expedite amazing service. The low star reviews on here should be taken with a grain of salt. I have been in this area a long time and have no connection to this restaurant other than frequenting it every now and then. I never felt rushed or hurried out the door. A server even did a tequila shot with us during a birthday lunch for my my friend! The staff is always friendly and professional and the food is...
