Great Wall (900 Cavalry Rd) — Restaurant in North Middleton Township

I normally don’t leave reviews, but I felt the need to share my recent experience.

I’m not from the area, but my son has basketball practice just a few minutes up the road, so I looked for a nearby spot to grab a bite while waiting. I walked into this restaurant with no expectations, just hungry and trying to support a local business.

As soon as I stepped in, the owner (who I later realized was also the cook) greeted me with an extremely nasty attitude before I even said a word. I asked calmly, “Do I just seat myself?” and was met with a loud and rude “NO, no sitting!” I was taken aback by his tone and had to stop myself from reacting the same way. I politely asked why, and he said “No server.” I said, “Okay, I can order and pay, can I still sit and eat my food here?” He angrily shouted, “Takeout only!” as he walked back into the kitchen.

Even if takeout only is the policy, there’s a much better way to communicate that. His whole energy made me feel completely unwelcome, and honestly, it felt personal. As someone who lives an hour away, I was hoping to find a spot I could frequent every Tuesday and Thursday while my son practices 4 mins away, but sadly, this won’t be it. I hope this place won’t be it for ANYONE!! Maybe this is why he has no servers… that kind of attitude would push...

This was hands down the worst Chinese food I've ever had- in Carlisle or across the country. I ordered the General Tso's, the Hunan Triple Delight, and a pork eggroll and the eggroll was the only thing that had any flavor. The chicken was overfried and tough, the sauces in both dishes were absolutely devoid of any flavor whatsoever, and although the option for "extra spicy" was elected for both entrées, there was a noticeable lack of any spice at all. Great Wall under the new owners is AMAZING! The food is extremely fresh, good quality, and given in abundance. My go to dish is the "Home Style Bean Curd", its my absolute favorite. The tofu is cooked perfectly, the variety of vegetables is great and the sauce is perfect with a nice kick of heat! My family has ordered quite a few other dishes and they always come home perfect. For example, the "Shrimp Lo Mein": the shrimp were large, plentiful and cooked perfectly; very tender, the noodles were soft, and the vegetables were fresh.
