I am a big fan of gyros and greek food. Its something different and at least a little bit healthier than a traditional cheeseburger and fries. So I found this bar which has both greek food and sports, what could be better right? Niko's is located in a small strip mall in North Royalton so its a little bit out of the way from the big city. When you go in the bar is small, its really kind of packed in. This would be okay if it had more of a friendly or cozy appeal.
First off, it had kind of a dive bar feel. Lot of locals and people who regularly drank at the bar. I'm not sure how welcoming they are to out of town travelers or people not from around there. Perhaps they don't want new customers and want to keep the same ones I don't know? The bar is small so perhaps they want to keep clientele specialized and small as well.
Second, the staff seemed more businesslike than friendly. In the 20-30 minutes I was there I don't think there was a genuine smile once, & very few smiles overall. I'm not sure if thats how the owner wants to run his place, but really its not hard to get a cheap gyro or make one, you go to a place for comfort and a positive ambiance. Third, the staff was extremely slow and would forget about some customers. I wasn't the only one who had to tag someone down after they forgot to come back. Instead of one server, I ended up talking to three.
Now down to the food. The portions were small. Really small. Where it would take 2 or 3 gyros to be filling even for the average eater. Next they were overpriced, by 2-3$ compared to other taverns and bars. I don't think anyone who's traveled around town can deny the price disparity. Also they did not seem any different than other gyros. Actually the one I had had too much sauce and tasted liquidy so much so the shell was damp. On the positive side as a fan of gyros, the rest of the gyro was good enough but like I said not worth it. There were lots of sports screens, and it would be a good place to watch a fight if you can stand the cramped bar.
It just did not feel like a welcoming vibe and I've been to bars all around Cleveland. Who knows perhaps I went on a bad night. Still, if I managed a food and bar place I would at least focus on service and hospitality that way the customer has a good experience and doesnt even need to focus on the shortcomings of the food. Where every customer feels welcome. That said I'm a fair guy, I might try to stop around again randomly down the line just to see if anything's changed. And if its changed so will my opinion of it. But for now I would recommend non-locals to find a better place to eat that has more of the great Cleveland hospitality this town...
Read moreI’ve been going here quite a bit since moving to the area and I typically get amazing service and grade A food. Your gyros and saganaki are unmatched in the area, usually.
Unfortunately this time around, i don't know if it was a monday or something but the service was rough. Food came out all together, which i ordered at the same time so I’ll take that as my fault. But the saganaki came to my seat dried up a bit and burnt, while the gyro was not its normal amount of lamb in it, it also had maybe a tablespoon of tzaziki sauce on it.
So i asked the waitress for an extra side of it since the gyro was lacking it almost entirely and she stated it would be an extra $ .75 and if the gyro had the normal amount that came with the gyro i would gladly pay for it, but as i said, it did not. She also added that she can’t look into the middle of the gyro or go through it so she can’t say if there is not enough in it...
This kind of left me dumbfounded and made me want to leave immediately. Instead of me walking out I finished my meal and drink and paid for it as soon as I could. I’m sorry i left a poor tip, I normally leave a 20% for your establishment but unfortunately this experience was horrible. Let me put it like this, if this was my very first experience at Nikos I would never have come back here.
I really hope it was a one time thing or something because I typically love...
Read moreAfter reading all the other terrible reviews AFTER I posted mine, I just had to edit. I have just one question for all Nico's customers. With so many people complaining about the """EXACT""" same thing, when do you finally see a patern? At what point do all these negative reviews saying the same thing "RUDE" "GREEDY" "POOR FOOD QUALITY" finally hold true? I can see a few complaints about random stuff over the years, but this is different. I am absolutely BAFFLED at what I read here. You need your phone to read a menu!??!?!? What if your phone is dead? Or you simply dont have one?? Sucks for you????? You're nothing without a cell phone in your hand?? What a huge slap in the face! Im sure this Niko guy is trying, but he absolutely needs to be called out .....We walked in with a large group. Mostly all highschool friends so we drink the same. "Bud Light" well this bar never heard if it. It simply does not exist. Whats Bud Light???? We were all so surprised, we didnt know what to say. In fact, we were so speechless, the bar tender rolled her eyes at us and just walked away. The 12 of us took it right down the rd. .... Boycotting Bud Light over a political stunt is hurting you Niko, more then it is Bud Light. There was about a dozen of us that took it right down the rd. Never to return. Have...
