I'm giving this restaurant a 1-star review not because I think it's a bad restaurant, but because of how bad of an experience we had there. I'm hopeful it was an anomaly, but this was our first time there.
My family and I were driving through the area and wanted to grab dinner. We always try to choose a local restaurant over a chain, which is why we ended up at Pa Paw's. While the dining room was open, we still aren't comfortable eating inside, especially with older grandparents and young children. We ordered our meals to go with our plan being to eat in the car.
This is where things started to go bad. We noticed people that came in after us, both dine-in and take-out, were getting food and we weren't. We asked about our food and were told it was already boxed up. More time passed and we asked again, now they are saying they never made it and can't find the ticket. More people have come and gone. Finally, after an hour we asked for a refund because this was just ridiculous. We were told they don't know how to do refunds. They finally put some boxes together for us to carry out. When we opened the boxes, it wasn't even close to what we ordered. So now we've wasted an hour, spent $60+, and didn't even get what we waited for.
The waitress that helped carry boxes out was actually very nice and apologetic. It wasn't her fault and she was put in a tough spot. However, we had such a bad experience, I can tell you that we will not be going back. We were very disappointed.
I hope everyone else that has gone there has a much better experience...
Read moreBad service. My family was turned away after sitting down at a table with a coat on one of the chairs. Waitress said if we didn’t like the coat being there we could leave. (My aunt thought someone had left it behind) Waitress also said we complain a lot and don’t leave tips. Those things are not true. So we got up and left. Then as we were trying to leave we had car trouble. We had to get out and wait for a rollback to haul the car. While we were waiting, the waitress must have called crying to her grandma about us because granny showed up cussing us out over a freaking coat. I think the waitress thought we were waiting for her in the parking lot. I’m really not sure. (She realized how rude she was I guess and got scared??) They also called the cops on us but yet we were being attacked by this lady. We recorded about seven minutes of her threatening us. I have to say my family are decent people. I’m angry about the whole thing. A couple of them have some serious health problems and it was uncalled for. We haven’t been able to reach the manager because the girls say “he ain’t here”. Once my aunt got a phone call from them and it was silence and they hung up. We will not go back obviously. They don’t deserve this county’s business. I do question their cleanliness but thats another story. My advice is change the name...
Read moreThis is a really good old time locals oriented basic BBQ joint like NC is famous for. You don't come here for fine dining and ambiance, you come for darned good solid food and real straight shootin' good folk to dine with and feel at home. Their sliced barbecue is very tasty with good smoke, and perfectly moist and tender. The hush puppies are great, Cole slaw is acceptable, and turnip greens are obviously canned, but not bad. Was disappointed they were served with just plain white vinegar, but honestly, I forgot to ask for hot pepper vinegar. The portions were ample and the prices very, very fair. Must admit I was disappointed that I saw neither fried chicken nor bbq chicken on the menu, but there are lots of choices and seafood. No doubt, we will repeat many times. Though shop-worn from age and business volume, everything in there (kitchen area, floors, tables, and bathrooms) is clean and...
