This is a review strictly of the service at J. Alexander’s Redlands Grill. Their food is always good and I have nothing bad to say about it. However, my recent experience, which included a brief conversation with a member of their team, was very disappointing. I placed an order for delivery via Grubhub on 1/14/23. Our order was regrettably cancelled, but not until after we had waited for 25 minutes. The cancellation came from Grubhub in the form of a text message. I called to inquire about the reason for the cancellation and was told “that they only accept doordash and that Grubhub illegally put us on their platform.” I know for a fact that this is false because 1) I have prior orders from this restaurant through Grubhub and 2) 64 other customers left a review on Grubhub after having delivery through there. The person on the phone was both extremely short and rude as if it was my fault my order was cancelled. There are several ways this experience could have been better. First, they could have cancelled it immediately rather than wait 25 minutes to cancel it. Second, they could have at least called me to explain the situation. Thirdly, the person on the phone didn’t have to lie about the situation, which they did considering the above information provided. Fourth, the person on the phone could have been kind or at the very least not been so short. Given my past experience at and with the restaurant, I’m sure if the management team reviewed this, they would be embarrassed and would want to find a way to make this right considering how much went wrong. Until then, I won’t be changing my review or dining at J. Alexander’s...

I reserved a table for 20 people for my husband's 40th Birthday . When we got there everything was smooth. Until the entire party arrived we notice the waiter started feeling agitated or very nervous. When people started to order appetizers for theirselves the servers were just throwing them any where on that table and walking away . Once we got our food 3 people in our party did not get theirs. Finally one person got his. As we waited we asked for a manager she never came. Then the waiter said we didn't order these other items in which we did. So finally when the 2 people food did come out it was the WRONG ORDER . We then asked for a manager again she never came. So I got up and went to the front desk after we all ate mind you 2 people still never got food. Once they did get it , they had to pack it to go. I asked her to comp their bill due to errors of their serves and then watching everyone else eat. She refused multiple times only until I asked her for her bosses name and number to contact her to report my complaint. She then decided she would take care of the bill. Then when I asked for my husband's cake to be brought out to the table they brought desert dishes and asked US to pass them out while they threw forks all on table . No respect. The servers rushed and made my party feel unwelcomed . Food was not thoroughly cooked eithe which had to be sent back Horrible experience for a higher end restaurant. Definitely disappointed. Then when we asked for the checks the server brushed us off saying Hold on I'm working the best I can. If he couldn't handle a large party he shouldn't...

Wow! This place is worth the extra price. The staff is phenomenal. We never had to ask for anything, everything was brought out in a timely manner. The drinks were refilled perfectly, she's polite and quick. She was also very knowledgeable. The service here excels and it makes this place a level above the standard affair. The food is excellent. The serving sizes are large, even for the soup, salad, and appetizers. The ribs were literally falling off the bone. The Mexican chili con queso was a delightful mix of spinach dip and a cheese dip - I think this dip would be great with vegetables too. The Thai barbeque salmon was flaky, buttery, and cooked to perfection. The sweet and spicy Thai barbeque balanced well with the smoky grilled salmon and created a delicious experience. The broccoli it was paired with was a great palette cleanser - bright, with a lemon and Parmesan taste. The iced tea is made in house and is a real iced tea. The ambiance here is well done. It's bright enough to eat/read, but still provides an intimate atmosphere. Everything is clean. Even though there is a bar with TVs, it doesn't feel like a bar - the TVs don't demand the attention of the room. The sound panels are integrated seamlessly into the design of the building - this building is a testament to the passion and consideration of people who truly care. I wish we had had enough room for desserts - they...

I went to J. Alexander's with a group of seven on the middle of the week. The short review is that the restaurant was clean, well maintained, they started us quickly, and the food was awesome. It was a little loud, but not too bad. I would recommend J. Alexander's if you are in the area. Read on if you want more details. Apon entering the restaurant I was impressed with the decor. It was very nice and clean. We had a reservation ave arrived relatively early. Even though we were early they were able to seat our group right away. It was a little loud at out table but not overwhelming. Most of us got the special, which was the Filet Mignon Medallions with a salad. The special came with Smashed Potatoes and broccoli. I requested to swap out the potatoes for the Macaroni and Cheese. The salad came first and it was excellent. The croutons were the best. When my dinner came it had the Macaroni and Cheese and the Smashed Potatoes. I took this as a sign that I needed to try the potatoes. I was right the Smashed Potatoes and the Macaroni and Cheese were great. The steak was done just right and tasted great. I would recommend trying J. Alexander's if you are in the area.

J Alexander seems to be popular destination for lunch in the Deerfield-Lake Cook road area. We had a farewell lunch today and when we arrived, the place was filled with guests. Luckily we did not have to wait and were seated in the furthest corner. However it was still very noisy and I had a tough time hearing my table. The food is ok, though I did not go for the popular dishes like ahi tuna. We had the calamari for appetizers and it was good, tender and not overly covered with dough. The shrimp salad that I chose was ok. There was a big wedge of cabbage that I had to cut and with the avocados et al, I decided to skip the wedge. The salad was mildly dressed which was good and the shrimps were big and tender. I couldn't finish the plate but others had ordered the fish steak with wild rice and a few of them cleaned up the plate. I skipped the dessert but others had it to go. All the whole, it was a pleasant experience and the toilets were very clean and well maintained.
