Granny's Donuts & Bakery — Restaurant in Oak Ridge

To quote “Stranger Things”, “Friends don’t lie”. And Granny’s lied.

You see, I have been craving donuts all day. It’s National Donut Day and I’ve been peppered with advertisements and deals from various donut shops. I’ve had Granny’s fruity filled donut holes, delectable apple fritters, and chocolate squares on my mind. All day. I mean, they’re the best around.

Normally I’d be going to the one closer to my home in Kernersville. But they closed permanently last year. So, I drove even further to Oak Ridge, hunger and anticipation building. The lack of sugar causing my vision to double, my speech to slur.

Then tragedy.

They closed at least twenty minutes early. On a Friday. On National Donut Day.

The sign, still lit, telling me in red glowing letters that they are open until 8pm today. But the lights are off and another sign says I just missed them.

I saw kids having to settle for ice cream next door, wincing as they let it melt down their hands into a grey puddle. I saw a man crying in his car. One older couple saw the sign and as they walked back to their vehicle decided to divorce.

So now, sullen, I’m going to a corporate donut shop. In Greensboro. And that shop, according to Google, is “as busy as it gets.” Probably filled with people who opted for Granny’s first.

We always stop when we are travelling through. When we went in the girl behind the counter was telling off another girl who must have been a few minutes late she was really rude in front of my husband and me. We started to leave but had promised our grandchildren the donuts. We should have left. I am so surprised at the quality what has happen have they sold out and someone else has it. They were not good was suspose to be fresh use to the donuts were even good days later. They were doughy inside some forgot the fillings and where was the wonderful glaze. I dont know if we will stop again maybe the Asian girl was to mad to do them right we sure hate it we bought 2 dozen of the fancy donuts as they call them 2 doz of the fancy donut holes 6 fritters which were good but fell apart i hope that was just a bad day for her and she will do better or...

Chocolate cream filled eclairs did not have cream in them. Major let down. Asked for a caramel macchiato as posted on the coffee menu and was rudely told that they (the store) doesn’t do all that… okay… so don’t advertise it then and there’s no need to be rude to paying customers. Don’t try to tell me they were “out” because if you can make a caramel latte you can make a caramel macchiato. Stop advertising things you don’t sell and lying to and gaslighting customers by saying you were “out” that day.

I found the behavior of the person working to be comical considering Christian worship music was playing and the worker was covered in crosses. Maybe they were just having a day. Saying have a blessed day in that tone defeats the purpose of saying it.
