Co Nam — Restaurant in Oakland

While the drinks are delicious and vegan pho is great and location and atmosphere are cute, Co Nam could really improve their operations and ordering system. Perhaps an online ordering system could help with the miscommunications, order delays and incorrect charges.

The staff are friendly but food takes forever to come out and every time we have come, they have tried to give and charge us for food we did not order. The first time we came, we were one of three parties in the restaurant and waited over 40 minutes for our food. It turns out they forgot to make it, so brought us a drink, which we thought was a nice gesture as an apology. When we got our check, they had added the $16 drink to the bill and also tried to charge us for a more expensive beer than we'd ordered. We thought that was a one time fluke since it was near the end of the day, so we gave them a second chance because we enjoyed the food. The second time we came, we again waited an hour to receive our food and the team tried to bring us 2 additional dishes that we didn't order. When we said we didn't order them, our server tried to convince us that we wanted them and that we would have to pay for them.

Sadly, we can't keep going back to a place that continuously tries to charge us for food we didn't order :( Writing this review in hopes that they can improve their operations so they can...

My fiancé and I look forward to ordering from Co Nam on Fridays during the shelter in place. We usually order a variety of delicious food (my god the garlic noodles and pork banh mi are incredible) and cocktails to go. The punch bowl has been a favorite but this week we tried out the happy hour cocktail box. This is the best thing I’ve ever gotten to-go from every restaurant. Truly, this is insane in the best possible way. Unreal that the amount of mixers and alcohol you provide is so reasonably priced. Would love if you could include some recipes for us to use but google has yielded some good results. So happy you also provide the option to add in an Oxo shaker. We live around the corner and although we never have actually dined in at Co Nam, we cannot wait to be able to come in and sit down in the near future. Arrived fairly early for dinner and was seated pretty quickly on our own. Was very comfortable in the chair and faced a nicely decided wall - facing photos of real people of Vietnam.

I enjoyed their Maldives mocktail - hint of sweet and sour what tasted like plum.

We started off with their green papaya salad - fresh produce with more carrots than papaya, seasoned well but missing a hint of spice. Great portioned size for 2.

We then shared the five-spiced chicken steam buns, the buns were nice and fluffy but not too much chicken in there, could have done with more.

Ended our meal with the caramelized basa fish w/rice. Good dish overall. Could use with more chilli. Seemed very westernize and sweet.

Service was very good. Our waiter was super attentive and getting the food to us quickly.

Would be open to trying different dishes again to...
