Holy hole in the wall!!! We needed a place to grab food with our kids post-zoo trip and this hit the spot in every way. Extremely unassuming exterior, but we were very pleasantly surprised it had 5 parking spots attached to the building. Only one table inside plus two window seat areas, but it was very clean and inviting. The staff was friendly, helpful and were SO nice to our 2 and 4yo. Vast Majority of the menu has zero spiciness which was great for our kids who still only aspire to like spicy. They had a couple takeout orders picked up while we were there (this was 6-7p on a Saturday). -pita + hummus - this is when I knew we were in for a treat. We got this as a starter to help tie hangry kids over. The pita was amazing and the hummus spices were so good. If my 4yo hadn't loved it so much I probably would've eaten it all myself before the other dishes showed up. - lamb shank was truly fall off the bone meltingly amazing. The sauce was also so good. My 4yo couldn't get enough! It came with a full plate of flavorful spiced basmati rice that my 2yo ate by the handful + perfectly crisp fresh salad. The amazing salad dressing meant I couldn't help but eat most of it... which is saying something because I'm usually averse to cucumbers. - combo kebab with chicken and tikkah was well cooked, moist and not dry. Our 4yo also gave the chicken a thumbs up too. While we live far away in South Bay, we will definitely be back again next zoo visit. Can’t wait!

Delicious food with generous portions! We got the lamb and tikkah (tri-tip) kabobs. Everything was cooked perfectly and the meat was tender. Probably the best Afghan bread in Oakland. Love the green sauce for a tangy hit. I should’ve asked for a white sauce as well and declined the plastic ware since we ate at home. This was enough food for two lunches, plus a second meal for me and a snack for my guy.

Hands down best Gyro I’ve had since visiting Denmark. The seasoned fries paired with their ranch and smokey barbecue sauces were divine. The atmosphere is very friendly and the dine-in aesthetic was quaint. HIGHLY recommend OakTown Kabobs with my boy Farzad.

despite it's less than ideal location and it's tiny one table size, you can't beat this place: it's lamb kebabs are just about the most delicious, most tastiest, subtle, tender, sweetest lamb kebabs ever anywhere. the afghani rice was perfect. Lettuce and Tomato shepherds salad was crisp, juicy and excellent accompaniment. The only thing missing was an extra stomach to put it all in.

The attitude of respect, of welcome, generosity and hospitality was far greater than my greatest expectations - I might as well have been in Syria, Jordan, Palestine, I felt so welcomed and immediately, it was home to me. family.

The only other thing I tasted was afghani tea with milk (no sugar): I rarely add creme to my tea, but it so perfectly matched the huge meal on.my plate, it was a delight so I ordered one for takeout to stretch out the experience of food culture and traditional culture perfectly shared in this clean little "shack". It's not a shack, but it so reminded me of unforgettable surprises of cuisine and culture always showing up in unlikely places wherever you go in the Middle East, places like a Kurdish village tea shop where my waiter was a Chicago University professor of engineering, home for the summer on sabbatical, or a bedouin shaikh and his family in their sprawling camel wool tent in eastern Syria who's college graduate daughter spoke French with us.

I've learned never to underestimate the understated excellence of Asian traditions among the people.

but first and foremost this family knows what good food means

Can't recommend them more highly and...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my GOD Oaktown Kabob is my new go to SPOT for the most amazing and authentic Afghan cuisine in the East Bay. I absolutely love their Chapli Burgers here and I also tried the combo plate that comes with juicy tender chicken kebob and beef skewers that is absolutely to die for. One you put in your mouth you will start dancing like Michael Jackson may even get high on it. This place just opened up I guess a few days ago and they are already very busy and I'm sure soon there will be a line here and I'm sure it will be worth the wait. It's a small family owned business and Farzad one of the owners was very welcoming and had a huge smile taking my order and was cracking jokes. I'm got addicted to their food once I tied it. He sure wasn't kidding and I will be heading back Sunday to take my family and order their Lamb shank that he promise it will make me wanna order another round once I try it. As long as they serve this kind of delicious and flavorful Afghan food I will be a life time customer. Wishing all this family owned restaurant a huge success and I'll make sure to let all my friends and families know about Oaktown Kabob. Also before I forget their prices are also very reasonable and they do catering for...
