I hate to post this because I like to give people a fair shake, But this place was terrible! Went there on Sunday July 28th, about 10:30 a.m. I don't even know where to begin.... First of all, there were 12 in our party and they said they didn't have a place for us. So we all had to sit in three very tight squishy booths with fake jukeboxes taking up valuable tabletop space. We weren't able to sit together at all. But then, when I got up to go to the bathroom I saw an entire huge area in the back that had been, and could be, set up for big parties. They don't take reservations so they should have made that work for us. I was very frustrated after having to spend breakfast sitting at three separate tables when it could have been handled. When we were through eating and getting ready to leave I asked them why they didn't seat us back there and they said because they had a large party come in right before we did and that room wasn't available. But I saw that party that went in there and that would have taken up only part of that area-It definitely appeared to me that they could easily have fit us in another part of that area.
Secondly, it was VERY expensive --for very little food. I was with my entire family and my grandkids. My 7-year-old grandson ordered a chocolate chip pancake off the kids menu and it was $10 --that didn't include a drink. All the kids menu was $10. Everything was expensive; the average per-person price for a very small portion of undercooked food was about $15 a person. With my grandson, his pancake was about a 5-in diameter, it was almost raw, very chocolate chippy -a nasty pancake that came with two pieces of bacon. My adult son ordered a cup of coffee with cream and the cream came and it was curdled. One of my other grandsons ate the sausage patties that came with it and got some nasty hard things in his braces that he had to pick out. Like gristle maybe? My pancakes were utterly nasty. If I recall correctly the price was $13 and I got two pancakes about 5 in diameter, nearly raw. They were so undercooked that when I tried to butter them with the whipped butter that came on top they just fell apart. With that I had ordered the homemade sausage patty as the side. When the sausage patty came it was just a big clump of nastiness and it had a big thick pink strip in the middle of it. I wasn't about to eat that. There's much more, but I think you get the point. The service wasn't very good (although our waitress was kind she just wasn't attentive and it took a long time to get a second cup of coffee). There was, what I believed to be a manager or owner, that was just policing the place and it didn't feel very welcoming, our waitress had to keep conferring with that person as we were sending back food items. Besides the cramped tables, the pathway between the counter and the tables was very crowded; two people couldn't pass by there at the same time. When we left, all of the adults and even the children were saying that their food wasn't good and I spent over $200. Because the food was so bad I didn't eat much of it. As we were leaving I told one of my sons that if I didn't get sick I'd be hungry again in 30 minutes, and I was. I literally felt like I threw away $203.
Maybe we just got them on a bad day, but we won't be going back to check. Hopefully this will save some family some money and frustration, while encouraging the...

This was the first time my wife and I have been to the Oakley Diner since its remodel. The diner is clean, and the atmosphere is fun. Old-school booths, complete with juke turnstile music counter selectors. I don't know if they actually work. The lunch counter has round stools that swivel. It's an authentic diner with recent add-ons to make more room for patrons. So, if you have a large group, there's plenty more seating in the additional dining room.
We decided to go for a brunch as the diner has an "all day" breakfast menu on the lunch and diner side of the two-sided menu. The actual breakfast menu on the flip-side has more selections, but it only serves these dishes until 11:30 am. The all-day items are limited but will do the trick if you want breakfast basics. My wife ordered the fish and chips, and I ordered the Belgian waffles. The portions are generous, and the presentation is good. My wife said the breaded codfish were not as crisp as she would've liked, but the dish was hot. The fries were lightly seasoned and cooked perfectly. My waffles and bacon, on the other hand, were lukewarm at best. Despite the temperature issue, the waffle was light and crispy, and the generous portion of bacon was crisp too.
The server was friendly, and her level of engagement was average considering we're in a rural Utah diner. I would enjoy more attention to detail expected in any diner in America: coffee and water refills without needing to flag down the server.
The hostess/server came by and asked if we needed anything else, and I asked for a side of two eggs over easy. The eggs took way too long to come out, and when they arrived, they were cool and runny. Every chef and short-order cook knows that cooking eggs just right can be a challenge. I encourage the cooking staff to attempt to nail down correctly cooked eggs. Especially since people expect a stellar breakfast at a diner! The hostess/server did take notice that I didn't eat the eggs and immediately apologized, took them away, and kindly removed them from the check. (Bravo!)
Prices are reasonable and the menu has a good selection of items complete with daily specials. There's ample parking, and the location of the diner makes it very easy to find. I would say overall, the Oakley Diner is a must-see, and it's a fair value. It fits the bid for a remote diner off the beaten...
Read moreI had the joy of experiencing a delightful lunch at the recently renovated Oakley Diner. Even though it has only been open for a few weeks, this place still maintains the same level of excitement as its grand opening. It was truly thrilling to witness the new owners breathe life back into this establishment.
One of the brilliant moves made by the owners was the reconfiguration and additions to the parking lot. The inclusion of a secondary exit has transformed the once chaotic parking lot into an organized space. It perfectly complements the historic train car style diner, enhancing its existing charm. Additionally, the coffee/soda shop below the diner, although not yet open, appears to be a promising spot to relax and enjoy a beverage.
Upon entering the diner, we were warmly greeted and promptly placed on a waiting list. To our pleasant surprise, the wait was only around 15 minutes, considering how busy they have been. Although it took a bit of time for our waters to be filled and our order to be taken, we anticipated this due to the diner being newly opened and having full tables. However, our food arrived promptly and our waitress was eager to ensure that we were satisfied with our meal.
We started our meal by sharing a cup of their soup of the day, which happened to be a delectable potato leak soup. It was bursting with flavor and had a wonderfully creamy consistency. Next, we indulged in a classic Caesar Salad. While there was nothing particularly extraordinary about this staple, the greens were fresh and crisp, as were the cherry tomatoes. The dressing was applied just right, although my companion wished for a bit more.
For our main course, we decided to share the patty melt accompanied by a side of sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries had a delightful crispy exterior, a refreshing change from the typically soft and floppy ones found in most eateries. The patty melt itself was bursting with flavor and featured a delicious mustard onion sauce that complemented the sandwich perfectly. We were pleased to find that the bread remained toasted and did not become soggy. The only minor adjustment we would make is to evenly distribute the two patties between the slices of bread.
Overall, our experience at Oakley Diner left us extremely satisfied, and we will certainly be returning for...
