The Big Greek Cafe — Restaurant in Oakton

I dont know what these other reviews are talking about! Maybe it was an off day but, the couple of times I’ve tried Big Greek Cafe it did not disappoint! The first day I tried the chicken avocado pita: 5/5, delish. Great portion for the price. I ordered TOGO food to bring to my mother, I ordered: gyro Greek salad (gyro on the side)- delicious, fresh, crisp ingredients. Moussaka… one of my all time favorites if I eat at a Greek restaurant and this definitely did not disappoint. We ordered the chicken souvlaki, but were disappointed with the quality and flavor of the chicken—it didn't taste good and was served sliced in the pita rather than on a skewer, which took away from the traditional souvlaki experience. We also would have preferred sliced tomatoes over the diced ones, which felt less authentic. Overall, it seemed like a noticeable drop in quality compared to what we used to get from Souvlaki Bar, the previous store. Tried and unfortunately not impressed with the food. Not close to what was served in different countries in Europe. The gyro pita sandwich lacked any spice flavor and was dry. Chopped tomatoes and chopped red onions reminds me of salsa (Mexican not Greek) didn’t see any cucumbers. The price of $10.95 you would expect a side item like some hummus.
