I have been dining here at Andora for years and years. And years!! Never have I had a bad meal or experience. Wonderful wait staff and the outdoor patio is lovely. The atmosphere inside is very nice, as well. Yesterday, the "food" I was served for lunch was horrible. There HAS to be a new chef and this new chef needs trained properly or needs to find a new line of work. Reservation at 1 p.m. My Kona crusted pork arrived partially cooked. One half was cooked...the other half raw. Seriously, how does that even happen? That's my favorite meal there and I'm not sure I'll ever order that again. I asked for green beans instead of the asparagus. They arrived rock hard, and I am not being sarcastic. The only good part of the meal with the risotto. Even the bread dipping oil we were served was bland and didn't taste anything like it always has in the past. I did not say anything to my server, for he has only been there a week. My friend was paying for my meal, so I didn't want him to feel bad and I didn't want to make a scene. By the way, my own grandson worked for Andora for well over a year in the back, when the former chef was there. The one who is top-notch. My grandson loved him and learned so much from him. The gentleman I had lunch with yesterday was the same person I had lunch with on September 1st at your restaurant. I raved about the Kona crusted pork, but he felt like ordering something else. When my meal came, the exact same meal I ordered yesterday, it was as fabulous as it had always been. I asked him to have a few bites and he was so sorry he didn't order that and kept telling me he wanted to go back and have that same meal I ordered. So, we did yesterday. He raved about it on September 1st, and hardly said a word yesterday. My guess he was not enjoying his meal, as well, and didn't want me to be disappointed. One lousy meal isn't going to stop me from returning. I just hope you realize that something needs "addressed". The pork didn't even look the same as it always has. I know I will not be ordering it again in the future, that's for sure. The new waiter we had was very kind and we did enjoy having him...
Read moreThere used to be three of these outposts, and now there are two, so we came to this one in search of a nice dinner - and that's what we got with some friends. Because the weather reports promised rain, they did not open the outdoor patio - which was good, because it did end up pouring! - and we ended up seated inside. Our waitress was great: Knowledgeable about the menu, just coming by enough that we did not feel neglected, yet not so often that we were bothered. The food was excellent and the ambience was nice. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but the quality was there to support it.
We each got an entree and most of us got an appetizer and a glass of wine. The young waitress was not comfortable recommending wine pairings - which we were glad to see that she did NOT try to go out of her comfort zone!
We tried their regular chicken, salmon, scallop dishes and the Red Cod special. When we asked what is a Red Cod and how it is distinguished for other kinds of cod, we were informed that it originates from the Mediterranean and that is the origin of the name. By looks and taste, it looked no different than other cods, but we'll trust that they know what they're doing. Each of the dishes came with Asparagus stalks on the side which were incredibly large, but well prepared. And, there was always a starch, it was different on each dish and all were well done.
If I wanted to be picky, I would say that the cooks were a bit too heavy with all the artichokes they threw on almost everything and the bread plate that came at the beginning of the meal was no where near the standards of the rest of the meal.
We really enjoyed ourselves, the meal, the experience...
Read moreAndora on Mt. Nebo Road in Sewickley is an absolute find! This charming spot serves up lunch and dinner with a delicious selection of New American entrees, wine, and craft cocktails—all in a stylish, cozy space complete with a fireplace, a spacious bar, and the most magical outdoor patio (think twinkle lights and a fountain... yes, please!). I went for dinner with a friend—such a great girls’ night or date night destination! To drink, we enjoyed wine and a strawberry bellini made with fresh strawberry purée and prosecco. Their cocktail menu is perfection. We started with the three-cheese stuffed zucchini ribbons in a sweet red pepper cream sauce, and wow—the best zucchini dish I’ve ever had. We also shared the jumbo lump crab cake, lightly baked and served with a red onion caper sauce—super fresh and full of flavor. Next, we split the house salad, a refreshing mix of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, black olives, feta, roasted red peppers, and their homemade Andora dressing (who doesn’t love a homemade dressing?!). For our entrees, we tried the braised BBQ short rib—topped with crispy onion straws and served with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes—yum! The Andora Chicken was another standout: tomatoes, artichokes, capers, banana peppers, asparagus, and seven-pepper risotto. It was full of flavor and totally hit the spot. I seriously cannot wait to go back and enjoy dinner on their dreamy patio under the stars. Loved everything about...
