Family Lin — Restaurant in Ohio

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! Unless you want terrible food and terrible service stay away!

The first time we ordered a variety of the menu items to get a feel for the quality of the restaurant, and were deeply disappointed. The food was so bad that it was mostly thrown away after tasting it.

The General Tso Chicken was inedible, and we couldn't even eat more than a few bites before we tossed it in the trash. The Won Ton soup and Fried Rice (just fried rice no vegetables or any type of meat was included in the rice -- which was bizarre but apparently a regional thing) were both terrible. The eggroll was super oily and the stuffing was gross. The only thing that we ordered that was even half-way decent and that weren't thrown out were the Pan Fried Dumplings. All and all a pretty poor fare.

More than a year later we tried to place an order again for Pan Fried Dumplings -- thinking that perhaps the place was having an off day the first time we ordered from them. (We really wanted to like the place it was 5 minutes from our apartment.)

We called ahead of time for a pick up order of the dumplings, and were told it would take between 15-20 minutes (which seems pretty outrageous for a single order of dumplings but ok). We arrived at the location 30 minutes after the order, there were two other people in front of us in line waiting for their own orders. One guy got his order and left and while we were waiting to be acknowledged by the staff another woman and her child came in -- were given their order (with an in store addition of wonton soup) all before we were even given more than a glance. When she left we'd been waiting about 15 minutes in the store, and another customer came into the store and stood directly in front of us to look at the menu. Completely shocked that the staff would ignore us and help the woman, and then that someone would literally stand right in front of someone clearly waiting for service we waved down the staff to get their attention-- who though we'd ordered on the phone ahead of time apparently hadn't placed our order.

They didn't tell us this, but after paying for it and waiting for them to hand the bag over they continued to move about the kitchen or hide behind a corner in the back so we couldn't ask about the wait. By this point, it had been over 20 minutes of us waiting in a stinky, sweaty, hot restaurant and we just wanted out food -- which by rights should have been ready for pick up upon our arrival.

Another 7 minutes and one of the cooks apologized for the wait and said it would only be a few more minutes. The idea of having wasted all that time and not having received our order was unpleasant but not as much as being forced to stand around and being further abused by Family Lin's sub-par customer service.

We cancelled the order but to top off the experience the kid that they had running the register shorted us our change -- we had to point out the full amount of transaction to get all of our money back. We will never again order from this place.

This business is highly NOT recommended. We were both disappointed in the low quality of food from the first time we ordered from this place, and then furious at the treatment we received from the staff when we gave them a second chance. We ordered take out for the first time here. We typically drive to our favorite Chinese restaurant, but wanted to try a more local place instead. We were overall disappointed. The prices were very high and the portion size for the price was just unfair. The place we normally go to feeds us for 3 days, and the prices are less than half of what Family Lin was. Also, our spring rolls were not cooked all the way and the pineapple chicken was so mushy. The tiny container that they give of sweet and sour sauce was also disappointing, as we couldn’t even imagine having to spend even more money on extra sauce. Make sure you have the right amount that your order is. Cause the driver will not being back change to you and rude. Plus was on the cell phone talking to someone and not really doing his job. You call and tell them about it and they tell you to call the driver and he has a attitude with you when you call him. Food is good from there but poor...
