What an amazing find!! Great little place with a great staff! When we pulled up, there weren't many cars in the lot and the building is quite unassuming. Six of us came in around 6:30 to celebrate a 21st birthday and it wasn't very busy. Lucky for us!
Food was fresh hot and delicious. We had the pickle spears for a starter and they were perfect served with a southwestern ranch. Between us we had calzones, grinders, ribs and a baked chicken breasts. The calzones were colossal! It was choose your 5 fillings and cheese. The crust was just right, in my opinion for thickness and cooked to perfection. Fillings were fresh and plentiful. The grinders were on a great crusty bread. One of us had the Buckeye Beef and it was real roast beef and chock full of delicious flavor. It came with a huge pile of fries that if they were not fresh cut, I don't know what they were except golden brown and delicious. I had the naked chicken Parmesan and a salad. The chicken Parmesan had a slightly sweet sauce on it that complimented the chicken beautifully. One of us had the ribs and Mac and cheese. The ribs were falling off the bone and spiced just right. The mac and cheese had several different cheeses in it and was definitely not from a box. The last entree was the healthy option if a baked chicken breast. Although I didn't taste it, it looked juicy and delicious and was complimented greatly by the person that did order it. All in all an A+ kind of meal.
It was great to hang out in a place that we could chat over the music, the atmosphere was fun and the food and staff amazing. I am sure we will return. If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for?!
**Edit: How could I forget dessert!? We were so full we did not need or really want dessert, but I had read another review about it. So, we got a piece of butterscotch cheesecake, the variety they had last night to share. Oh, my goodness! It was amazing! Part of it made its way home so, someone will get...
Read moreJanuary 2019 Looking back over my previous review I realized I was more harsh than I intended. The Ugly Duck in Wooster Ohio is one of the friendliest pubs in the world. I have eaten at restaurants, cafes, pubs, and grilles in a dozen countries on four continents. I would rather have dinner at The Ugly Duck than at any of them.
I have often paid ten times as much for food only half as satisfying. If you order the pizza "dirty", no pizza in the world will ever please you again.
From Spring 2018. When I first started going to the Ugly Duck back in 2010, it was a poorly lit bar with an awful interior. Over the years there have been many improvements in both lighting and interior decoration, but the place really needs a thorough and proper floor to ceiling renovation. The menu is richly spiced with robust flavors. Mostly Italian, there are also some American-style south of the border foods like tacos and chili. The pizza is one of the best I have ever had anywhere in the world and the ribs are the absolute best I...
Read moreGreat food. Friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. This is an awesome locally owned sports bar. I recommend stopping in at least once if you're visiting our little city. If you live in town, this place should be on your list of local favorites. I've liked every food item I've tried. The pizza is awesome, and I recommend ordering it "dirty" so you get the extra house spices. The duck burgers are delicious. The meatball subs are amazing, and the meatballs are handmade in the kitchen. The homemade mozzarella sticks are the best fried cheese I've ever had. The pretzel sticks and beer cheese are an appetizer I highly recommend. Have I mentioned the ribs? They're cooked to a perfect state of tenderness and the spicy BBQ sauce compliments them excellently. To sum it up, I've had nothing but excellent food here so stop in and give them a try as soon as you have a chance. If the night life is more your thing, the drinks are priced well and the variety is on point, so I recommend checking...
