Notice: This review is based on my recent visit on a Monday night around 9pm and it may have just been bad luck for me...
That said, buckle up for a thorough review!
Store hours note: In my review, I have attached several photos and one of which is the store hours. Please note that on the photo of the store hours there are three different icons: A Pickleball, indicating the pickleball hours, A Chicken, indicating the restaurant hours, A Beer glass indicating the bar hours.
So today for me started out around 6:30 pm because I play in the Honcho pickleball league every Monday night. I was on premises for about 3 Hours total this evening. I will start with my pickleball experience then move on to the restaurant experience later.
Pickleball review: The courts are very nice and the facilities are well kept. They have indoor courts, outdoor covered courts and regular outdoor courts. To me the prices are a bit steep and I don't think it's any cheaper even if you bring your own gear. I think the gear should be rented out for a small fee so that people who play on a regular basis can save a little money by not having to rent the gear and thus you can lower the price of the Court rentals for your regular crowd. Secondly, When you have a league playing at your facility they should get some sort of Court preference because their money is already committed to you. Our league got to play on the indoor courts just one week, then we were pushed to the outdoor uncovered courts for the remainder of the season which were in the setting Sun the whole time making it difficult to see and causing us to fatigue more quickly. That's not how you should treat people who have prepaid weeks in advance for the use of a court.
Overall facility review: This is a pretty fun place to come hang out as there is lots to do. They have all sorts of outdoor games like bocce ball, cornhole and giant battleship in addition to pickleball, of course.
They have an indoor and outdoor bar and also an upstairs area and lots of seating outside. It has a really cool overall atmosphere. Sadly I've been coming here for quite a while now off and on and the indoor men's room still has an unpleasant smell to this day. There's probably something wrong with the sewage and they need to fix it because it could turn people's appetites away from wanting to eat or finish their food.
Dining review: I ordered the southwest salad and substituted fried Chicken in for the grilled chicken that it comes with. When my salad came out it was missing the dressing and had far too many cherry tomatoes... I counted at least 20 halves. I ordered it to go and it came out without the dressing and in two separate boxes which I thought was strange and the salad itself was very small so it didn't really have room for me to mix in the Chicken. This is the first time I ordered this salad and when I first got it I looked and didn't see any dressing so I asked one of the workers if it was maybe on there but there wasn't a lot or maybe it was at the bottom and they told me it was on there. After a few bites and digging a little bit I realized there was definitely no dressing on it so I got up again and asked for some. The flavor of the food was really good aside from the mistakes that happened with it. I also would encourage the owners to get different takeout utensils because I was using the plastic fork and the tip of one of the prongs broke off in my mouth while I was eating so I had to spit out that bite. The experience I had with the food was just odd because it felt like the staff I interacted with were just kind of disinterested in general except for the two managers (One was named Austin I believe) and the cashier.
I will be coming back to this location again and I hope that some improvements will have been made or that my experience is better next time and I will update my review to reflect an improved experience if it...
   Read moreEnjoyed everything! But one.
My friend and I came on a Monday night for the Oklahoma sunset. Chicken pickle is what we thought of for a great view because of the expansive outside eating area. Food was awesome (get the Caesar salad with chicken, YUM!), drinks selection was good and cold but one other thing was also cold.
We had wonderful service from (almost) all the staff from the person who took our order, brought the food, and also served our drinks.
Ordering our food was easy and the girl who took the order was kind and knowledgeable. As was the other girl who delivered the dinners and brought me packets of hot sauce when I asked if they had any. After enjoying a nice dinner on the top patio watching the sunset, we went to the main bar inside because that Oklahoma wind is vicious.
We were initially served with a couple beers by a sweet girl with black hair at the main bar (didnât get her name). She was smiling, kind, and quick.
Then we made a mistake to ask the other bartender (girl with brown hair who put on a camo jacket when it started to get chilly inside, didnât get her name either) for another round. We assumed she didnât hear us the first time so when she came up to use the POS in front of me, I asked for another couple beers. Her response was âIâm taking care of someone else right nowâ (with the attitude of a teenager) waiving someoneâs credit card for emphasis.
Now⌠I was a bartender myself for several years and waited tables for almost 9 years. I know when someone is busy and someone is just being disrespectful. She wasnât busy. It was a slow night. (They were already doing closing duties)
With my experience, if a bartender canât multi-task in taking a couple beer orders and then also charging a card then I donât think bartending is best for them. Her response was not someone who should be in the customer service industry. A simple appropriate response could be âOkay, Iâll be right with you in a minuteâ at the very least.
So to make sure we, as customers, werenât doing something wrong, we checked when Chicken Pickle closes. It was about 8:30 pm at the time we checked. They close at 11 pm.
My friend (very upset with this interaction) said ânever mindâ when she came back demanding what we wanted and instead my friend called over the sweet bartender with black hair and asked if she would get our beer order. Which, of course, she did and knew exactly what beers we were drinking and did a wonderful job!
We left there wondering what this camo jacket wearing bartender hated so much about us and wishing we could have given our tips directly to the good kind bartender because she deserved every bit of our money.
All this being said - I really like Chicken Pickle but one bad seed can ruin an experience and cause people to not want to return. Luckily, Chicken Pickle seems like they have a lot of good seeds but might just need to...
Read moreThis was my first visit here and it was an eye-opening experience. The venue is frikkin amazing and atmosphere so welcoming. I loved that and it makes up for any of the issues I saw and encountered which I will divulge.
The food is way too expensive for the amounts and portions you get to eat (like the bowl is overpriced) but the flavors are decent to alright. The food isn't that great but it's good. Usually when you're hungrier than a hippo, you want a meal to hit the spot. This meal left me wanting.. like more food but not their food.. it was good but I guess it could've used a little more care is all. I got the spicy bowl and I loved the spicy slaw. But that was the start of the fish and its a side! The chicken was juicy but was luke warm at best and the flavors were a little lacking. I love that's is deboned rotisserie roasted chicken & got an extra large piece of cartilage in one of my pieces to remind if that. The cilantro lime rice was alright. Maybe I expected more cilantro lime infusion but got the most cilantro hints from the 3or 4 pieces of cilantro garnish and more lime sour/citrus hints from the pico than the rice though. I should have taken a picture of the bowl but forgot in the end.. maybe because the food itself was forgettable and wasn't memorable.. unlike the event I went for, which was Poetry and Chill Adult Workshop. That packed a flavorful punch! Wow! The event is free & the food as price of admission was worth it in some form of equilibrium.
Anyway, another issue was while seated there for the event, there were no servers helping me with food. They were serving others regularly but never once offered to come my way. I guess had I known there was a digital menu, I Woodbridge realized that was a less than traditional way to order. But sheesh, I even had to get the cup of water from the bar plus refills even though the server later acknowledge his awareness I was indeed there. I.e. The servers were not exactly helpful unless you order. One was somewhat shortish with me and did somewhat reproach me when asking for ranch? "They are all downstairs!" Short rather than spirited is not a good trade but I guess it was close to the end of their shift. It was a summary and the section upstairs closed at 7pm.. so I'm guessing we were imposing on their youthfully personal me time?
Either way, the venue is marvelous and everything around this venue more than makes up for any setbacks on food and service. I'll definitely be back for the Poetry and Chill event next month.. Definitely for the amazing venue! The food, may be not so much though.. the food will deserve one more chance to see if it was just time of the day rather than the norm. I see potential for excellent flavors there but it did not deliver its all. I will revisit and give it another chance, and update this after...
