Cocina de Mino — Restaurant in Oklahoma City

Warning, very long. I will start by saying we have been frequenting this restaurant since it was a little house structure by the train tracks off of Shields. Never have we ever been treated so horribly. Our server seemed new but was very sweet and had obviously asked for help on how to ring up our order. She then came to our table with a young lady to explain an up charge on our nachos because we wanted half one meat and half another. Thinking it was a misunderstanding, we mentioned that had never been done before but okay. The young lady (again, NOT our server, she was very sweet) basically dismissed our questions and hatefully said that's how it is now and walked off. Taken aback by the aggression, we decided to leave. We asked to speak to a manager and were told, by the rude young lady, that her sister is the secretary of the restaurant and agreed with her on the upcharge and that we were no longer welcome and she was calling security. I admit we were not happy with our treatment but at no point were we ever a threat that would require an escort. The actual manager overheard and asked us what had happened while the entire time, the rude young lady wiped down menus and rolled her eyes and at one point even interjected to degrade us and tell us to leave again, all over a $2 upcharge that we merely said had never happened before. I would understand if we were threatening or unruly or screaming or yelling but that is not the type of family we are and it was a simple misunderstanding and query as to why we were being charged for an extra ingredient that wasn't actually extra. Point of the story is, we understand increasing costs and have no problem paying that as it is happening everywhere and the food is worth it. We don't understand the secretary of the store giving permission for her little sister to be so hateful telling customers they are no longer welcome, again when we did not yell, threaten, harass but merely state something was being done that had never been done before. I hope maybe she was just having a bad day and not using her sister's position to chase off customers. That makes her sister just as responsible. Our little family not eating there anymore after 20+ years won't make a difference but if this is how she regularly treats people, you may want to discuss the implications her attitude has when she is sharing who her sister is that allows her to be so hateful...

So today after working 10 hour shift I decided to take the family out for dinner and invited my kids aunt and her kid's to join us for dinner so i had gotten to the restaurant and got us a table for 10 while we waited for my kid's aunt and her kid's to show up the staff members were getting our table ready as my kid's and I waited on our table to be ready and the rest of our party to show up one of the staff members had came over to me and asked how many kids will be sitting at the table I told her 8 kid's and she proceeded to go to one of the male staff members and said omg they have 8 kid's and the male staff member said they have 8 little did they know I'm Hispanic and I understand what they were saying I asked if it was a problem that 8 kid's are going to be at the table if so we could go somewhere else for dinner she then said that they were not talking about us and everything was okay. Yeah right!!!so the rest of our party showed up as we went to sit at our table I had asked that neither one of them to be our server for the night we sat down both staff members continued to walk past us and make comments about us the male staff member tried to intimidate us with his dirty looks and comments what does it matter if it's 8 or 10 our kid's weren't out of control and acting out like the table that came in after we did I spent over a 112.00 dollars the what gives them the right to talk about their customers like that management should give their staff a course in customer service as management just say in their office the whole time we were there but I will say this the waiter we had he was really good but we will not return ever to this...

Cocina De Mino is a good restaurant, with good authentic mexican foods that everyone can and will enjoy. Its a spacious restaurant with a nice atmosphere, lovely decor, and very nice waitresses. They start you off nice to, with delicious flour tortillas and chips with queso and salsa. Thats a bueno start, but it gets muey bueno as you order and look at the menu. I personally recommend any of the combinations. My personal favorite is the Special Mexican Dinner, which comes with two enchiladas and a tamale (all of which are traditionally filled with pork, chicken, and cheese but its your choice on what you want) and comes with rice and beans. And their desert, like the Postres Cheesecake Sopapilla is something you cant pass up!

Now with all of this, what did I find wrong with the resturant? Well, there are three problems I see. They are not really deal breakers but they do need to he addressed. Remember how I said that on the combinations you have your choice of what you want? Buyer beware, if your not clear on what you want, they will default and give you whats on the menu. This goes for if you want to substitute anything. Plus, despite it being spacious and normally slow, the servers are a bit slow with how they get to you. You could wait from 5 to 20 minutes for an order or food. But probably the weird problem I have is that for it being so spacious...there isnt really much in the way of seating. Maybe this was intentional but still. Regardless its still a good place to grab some quality food, and you should totally go and grab a bite.
