El Mexicano — Restaurant in Old Bridge

A fantastic place that serves authentic Mexican food with the friendliest workers, whom I believe are the owners. I walked for dine-in service and although there are only a few tables available, I had no issue being seated immediately. The meal started with fresh tortilla chips and two types of salsa. For the main meal, empanadas with enchiladas and rice w/black beans. The other meal: chicken burrito & tamale with rice & black beans. Both meals were cooked to order, fresh, incredibly delicious and generous with the portions. The server was nice, attentive and friendly & accommodating with the children at the table. While we ate, there were a few take out orders that were picked up, so it showed that the restaurant is an area favorite. Ordered food from this place twice using Uber eats. First time they forgot the drinks but their food was okay. The sopes were good but the el pastor meat was a no for me. The second time I ordered, they did not have one of the items I ordered. Instead of calling me to inform they did not have the item, they just took it off the order and sent the order to us without it. I understand they didn’t charge us for it, but now someone in my household did not get dinner because we weren’t informed. I called the place and they just said “well, we didn’t charge you.” Gee thanks, but that doesn’t help me feed everyone in my family since we are now short on food. This place is a hole in the wall but they have GREAT FOOD. I’m from California and it is really hard to find descent Mexican food on the east coast. This place has descent tacos serving Carne Asada and Lengua which is my favorite. Their Spanish rice is orange which is a good sign and it’s pretty good, of course not the same as the way traditional Mexican people make it but it’s as close as it comes on this side of the country. I asked if they had refried beans, the girl told me yes they did. However, when I got my food, it was whole black beans. Overall, this place makes great food and their horchata is pretty descent. Tamales are pretty good.
