Born and raised barely outside the Philly city limits, and then living multiple places throughout the country, in the South and on the West Coast….I’ve had my share of cheesesteaks. My hands on favorite still is the John’s Roast Pork stand, in South Philly, and a couple other places down there, that use the hard-seeded roll. Saying all that, we moved to the Greater Scranton/Wilkes Barre area a few months ago. This place here, Largos Place, in Old Forge, Pa, (yes that old forge famous for its pizza), is one of the best cheesesteaks I’ve had outside the city of Philly. They don’t use my favorite hard texture seeded roll, but the soft (Amoroso’s I’m guessing), is delicious. The sandwich is heavy on the meat, with just the right amount of fried onions. The sweet peppers I asked for also, were chopped up which was good. No Cooper Sharp available, but The American cheese I chose instead, was very flavorful and prevalent throughout the sandwich. The sandwich was so moist, flavorful, ample, and satisfying to this cheesesteak purist. The fresh hand cut fries were a bonus. They were awesome too. On top of that, the place has very nice sociable and personable husband and wife owners. This place scores a 5 star experience for me. Yes. 5 stars. Definitely stop in if your in the area. And to the steak purists, you won’t be...
Read moreI got a cheesesteak the other day and I was impressed, I got it with wiz and mushrooms on it. It had really good flavor, a nice amount of steak, the perfect amount of cheese so it wasn’t a mess to eat.
This was my first time at this place and it was very clean, staff was friendly, and they were very efficient. There must of been 5 people waiting ahead of me, but they managed it very well.
If I’m nitpicking, soft hoagie bread isn’t “my” favorite for any sandwich. I really love a sub that has a hardness on the outside, and soft inside, maybe some seeds, sesame or poppy. That’s probably the Italian in me, growing up spoiled with subs and different breads coming out of Rockland county NY. With that being said, the hoagie was fresh and about as good as it’s going to get.
If I was the Dave Portnoy of cheesesteaks I would give it an 8.6, a really solid sandwich worth traveling up to a half...
Read moreWow, was at restaurant a couple months ago and food was great so I’m in town this weekend and went back. They’ve done so much to this place I can’t imagine it ever being anything but amazing!!! Owners offer Veteran discount, so thoughtful! The welcoming atmosphere is infectious, you feel like your best friends with owners and all that enter. The pictures on walls of family members helps you to see the family oriented atmosphere your walking into. Love the picture of Largo when you walk in door, I had to ask one of the owners the type of sauce they put in container for my hoagie. All Dietz and Watson and special sauces Jo Jo makes in Kitchen. You can’t go wrong eating at Largo or ordering takeout. If I could give them a 10*...
