The bar for a dining experience in the greater Bangor area has been raised by Kanu, a new upscale restaurant in Downtown Old Town. My family and I were given the opportunity of a sneek peak tasting of what to expect when the new eatery opens, and it is delicious for the mouth and eyes! Our four course sampler, which seemed to never end, gave us a great mix of menu options. The plating for each course was very appealing to the eye and definitely brought out the oohs and aahs when placed in front of us. To start we were served two different but refreshing salads: Bib & Balsamic and an Autumn salad, and an order of crispy homemade chips. The next round included Rosemary Garlic Poutine and Mussels Sambuca, each with portions intended to share for sure. The poutine was exactly what a cold night in Maine calles for, very comforting. While the broth the Mussels are served in was very flavorful, and can be sopped up with the provided bread. The main course featured Prime Rib with whipped potatoes and a fantastic horseradish sauce. The prime rib pretty much melted in our mouths...so good! The Babyback ribs were so tasty with just a touch of sweet and a bit of a kick, balanced nicely with baked beans and rice. A pasta dish with fresh noodles and sauteed wood fired chicken in a romano cheese sauce was rich and very comfort food-esque. The final entree was Cedar Plank Kanu Salmon, cooked to perfection with delicous cripsy kale chips and rice. Ending the meal was a great array of desserts, including a super fancy Strawberry Shake with an angel food cupcake, which at first glance looked like a donut. The creme brulee was fantastic and the Gray Family blueberry cake was light and tasty. My fave was the Funnle Cake with ice cream and fresh berries...a great ending to a great meal. The beer menu is really a who's who of Maine brewers, with options for everyone. The atmosphere was unlike any other in the greater Bangor area. Our waitress, Stephanie was warm and very personable, always available and made it a great experience for our family. We would highly recommend giving Kanu a visit, for a nice night out...great food, great atmosphere!

Really disappointed. We went there on our anniversary. We had an 8:30 reservation but still had to wait and apparently the rooftop staff didn't even know about the reservation. The Dubai chocolate milkshake didn't taste like chocolate or pistachio, which doesn't even fit the concept of Dubai chocolate. Tbh it tastes like melted McDonald's milkshake. All the straws we got were shorter than the cup. Apps were ok, mussels were good but really tiny, I grew up by the ocean and its prob the smallest I ever had. I thought the meatballs were decent but bf said they were inconsistent in texture. The main course was a huge disappointment, got a Margherita pizza and the Kanu burger. The burger bun was hard and burnt on the top, the moment I picked up all the sauce and lettuce just dropped onto the plate, the fries were WELL SEASONED, I felt like I was eating a salt block. Didn't even want the dessert after all that. Not to mention the countless mosquitoes and a spiderweb on the table by the fire where we were eating, plates looked dirty. Waitress seemed happier talking to her friends than taking care of customers. Overall wonderful experience LOL

Absolutely jam packed with pretentious people who have no concept of how to speak quietly. Great selection of beverages and the food is outstanding, but I would recommend against ever making anniversary arrangements here. We reserved a roof table for our anniversary and it was a shameful experience for a restaurant that prides themselves on "fine dining." First of all, we got there and the table wasn't ready and they completely forgot to make any preparations whatsoever, so we waited half an hour to even be seated. Fine, everyone makes mistakes. We're seated at the top, and the anniversary reservation, (a spendy reservation mind you), got us absolutely nothing at all beyond a normal table and a 15 dollar bottle of cheap champagne that you can grab at any Target in the country. The reservations cost us over $80 for that alone, and that's before ordering even a bite of food. Shameful. At least get a decent bottle of champagne if you're going to offer anniversary reservations, otherwise it is absolutely pointless to ever make reservations at all. Just go in and grab a table. Ya might have to wait a bit, but as I said, we had to wait a half hour upon getting there anyway despite our reservations, so why pay the money?

The staff barely checked on us during the meal, and my water glass remained empty for almost the entire meal despite the waitress walking by and looking directly at our table numerous times. Fortunately, she still had plenty of time to stare idly at her phone and laugh with her coworkers.

Utterly subpar experience other than the food. If it was a cheap restaurant then I would be inclined to forgive and forget, but considering the cost they really need to work harder to justify the expenditure. I recommend checking out the fine dining in Brewer and Bangor; there are great restaurants much more deserving of your patronage.

Again, and I hate that I have to say this, but AVOID MAKING RESERVATIONS HERE! Absolutely pointless and a complete...

Gosh I wish I took pictures. We got Buffalo Cauliflower Ragoons and Cherry Burbon Pork Pops to start. The Buffalo Cauliflower Ragoons were exactly as described. The cauliflower was blended, not whole. 10/10. The Pork Pops were a tad dry, but the sauce was phenomenal. 8/10. For dinner we got The Blue Rooster and The Sap House Burger. The Blue Rooster is a whole pizza (not a true flatbread though on the menu as a flatbread) and can serve a whole family. Taste was like a BBQ chicken pizza, but the crust was burned (wood fired). 6/10. The Sap House Burger was a tad dry (though I got well done) as it didn't have much sauce or flavors. It looked like Applebee's, but not as good. 4/10. For drinks we got the Bubbling Mario and St. George Raspberry Margarita. The Bubbling Mario was 10/10 unless you squeeze the fruit into it at which point it becomes 2/10. Perfect amount of Vodka and flavor (I'm a Vodka straight fan though). The Margarita was true to its name and had a heavy tequila taste. Very strong. 8/10.

The igloo was a perfect setting. Beautiful, warm, well vented, nice heater, excellent blanket option, very spacious. The igloo wasnt lighted except for candles so we couldnt really see the food all to well. I have no idea what the pizza looks like. 9.5/10.

Our waitress was incredible. Nice, friendly, upbeat, came by enough, attentive, seemed like she loved being there, 10/10.

Speed of service was very quick, maybe we were just having such a good time it felt that way. 10/10.

Price was fair for the amount of food and everything listed above. 10/10.

Overall I would give it an adjusted...
