I wish this review was going to go differently, but after a follow up visit, this must be said. The service here is horrible. Ordered an omelette my first morning up in Ontonogan. Very excited, as not only had the reviews said good things, but our hosts from our lodging highly recommended this place as well. Well, not only were my hash browns undercooked, but my omelette was both over cooked and cold. The coffee is also very watered down. Decided to give another shot, as sometimes it's the service and not the food. They have a buffalo chicken wrap and a fried chicken sandwich. Explain to the waitress that I would like a BUFFALO chicken sandwich with fries. We wait. I see our order pop up on the window. Not only did our waitress walk by our food 4 times to take people drinks and to greet newly seated guests, but so did her coworkers over the 7 minutes that our food sat in the window. Needless to say our food was old. At this point the subject of quality seemed moot, so we sucked it up and just ate our food, as there was very much no management available. The biggest nail in the coffin on my second visit was that my "sandwich" was merely 2 chicken strips on a bun. No sauce added. Warm lettuce from the warming lamp while the rest of the items were somehow room temp. My girlfriend's BLT wrap came with 2 small prices of bacon and came with no mayo, though the description stated so. I don't make reviews like this lightly, as my past reviews of other places will reflect my love for food and discovering new places, but Syl's in Ontonogan needs to be made aware of these quality issues if they are going to be the premier food spot in Ontonogan like the people of the village feel it is.

A Hidden Gem Worth Stopping For! While passing through, we stumbled upon Syls Cafe—and what an incredible find! This cozy spot boasts a warm atmosphere and a delightful menu. The **sweet potato fries** were absolutely delicious, paired perfectly with the **honey mustard sauce** that hit all the right notes. Iced **unsweetened tea** lovers, rejoice—it's packed with flavor and so refreshing. As for the mains, the **thin-crust pizza** stole the show. The crispy crust was perfection, and every bite was pure bliss. It's clear everything here is *homemade*—you can taste the love and care in every dish. Let’s not forget the charming touches! Upon entering, there's a display of **cookies, donuts, pastries, and pies** that will make your mouth water. Speaking of pies, the board showcasing their **homemade pie selections** is a testament to the attention to detail this cafe offers. The friendly staff and more-than-reasonable prices make it even better. Do yourself a favor and stop by Syls Cafe—you won’t regret it!

We arrived at the diner around 6pm..eastern time...had to drive around for an available parking space. The staff were very friendly..along with other customers...I ordered a BLT which was not shy in bacon or tomatoes...very delicious...My husband ordered a Patty Melt with beer- battered fries..great tasting.....because it was our anniversary the waitress sent us back to our room with on-the-house pastries..what generosity..the staff was busy with plates and orders, manning the bakery, and preparing to-go bags..no slouching here!!!! It was a thrilling place....only one urp ..I didn't use the ladies' room because the door knob was loose...otherwise it's a 5*** establishment!!!!

3:30 pm on Sunday. Absolutely terrible service. Waitress never came back to table to ask how food was, no refills, ketchup bottle empty. Hamburgers are good but extremely PLAIN. Couldnt even get my bill without standing at register for 10 mins. Obviously its still here because there are not many options in town. Very sad actually, this place could be great. Definitely will not be back.

The waitresses are answering the phone, serving food, packaging food and WASHING dishes!!! So its not necessarily their fault.

If you are short handed the owner should be helping, PERIOD.

Revised after your response-

It was NOT busy at all when I was there and I am more than understandable due to the coronavirus. Through the entire coronavirus I leave 50% or more for a tip regularly. This was a PAINFUL experience. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to NEVER return to a customers table not even ONCE. AGAIN at 3:30 the restaurant was NOT busy. And there is NO way it has survived under your poor management for 40+ years. My guess is you bought it thinking you would NOT have to WORK!!! And no I will NEVER be back!! 😆

And from your recent reviews it looks like you have been far from outstanding 🤔! So its safe to say its not just me! Sorry I didnt enjoy spending my money on average food and NO SERVICE. You do understand that people are paying for a service when...
