The Fox Hole — Restaurant in Orange City

Just had a great experience at The Fox Hole! The atmosphere has a perfect balance between classy and low-key, making it great for an either a relaxed meal with family and friends or a casual date night. The ambiance allowed for easy conversation, while not quite it wasn’t loud, and we could still easily hear everyone around the table.

Our server, Chloe, provided excellent service—attentive yet not intrusive, and her timing with the food was spot-on. While the dishes didn’t come out super fast, they arrived at just the right pace to enjoy the meal without feeling rushed.

The menu is impressive! We ordered a collection of drinks, Moscow mules, margarita, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The smash burgers were cooked perfectly, juicy, on brioche buns, and sides of huge flaky onion rings. The split pea soup, has prosciutto, sprouts, and pistachios, which stood out as having unique textures and rich flavor. The steak sando with chimichurri was another highlight, with tender, medium rare steak on a large ciabatta roll. The grown-up grilled cheese is elevated with a bing cherry jam that added a touch of sweetness, and we also added a mushroom medley and bacon to it! And crispy creamy crème brûlée for dessert.

There are two ranges of prices on the menu making it accessible to different groups of people which we really appreciated. Overall, The Fox Hole is an excellent experience with great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back to try more...

So excited about this addition to downtown OC! Food was delicious and refreshingly different from other options in town. Based on the elevated food, I expected higher prices but was thrilled to see the menu has options that truly span price ranges. I had the fried chicken sando (SO good) with the best onion rings I’ve ever had, and my partner had the steak sando and a side salad. We were both thrilled to see capers, arugula and spinach on the plate - haha! We also both had DELICIOUS cocktails. I highly recommend the Amaretto Sour! Service was very friendly, welcoming, and quick, especially for a busier Sunday lunch time. We came without our kiddo this time, but noted this is the type of place that seems kid-friendly but also great for a date night (or day date, in our case). They really seem to do a great job of meeting a variety of needs/wants that seems super smart in a small town! We will be excited to become...

If you haven’t been to The Fox Hole in Orange City yet, you’re missing out! From the first sip to the last bite, everything about this place feels like you’ve been transported to a trendy city hotspot — but with all the warmth and friendliness that makes small-town Iowa so special.

The food is delicious — creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish that I have tried felt like it was made with care (and a little extra love). The drinks are top-notch too — think craft cocktails that could hold their own in any big-city bar, right here in Orange City.

And the staff? Friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to make your experience a great one.
