The food is what you might expect (except for the slaw ahem) and the workers are friendly. This outfit is one of (3) Dukes BBQ outfits in Orangeburg. The only thing I found a bit awkward was the worker who wasn't a traditional server. In most BBQ houses, you serve yourself, but the server kept dropping major hints about leaving her a tip for bussing the tables. Yes. I saw her refill the pitchers of tea on the unoccupied tables, but I'm unclear if that qualifies as serving. She did, however, throw away a plate of mine. Of course, I left her a decent tip, but maybe management should include some kind of signage asking customers to tip their people rather than rely on them to drop hint bombs throughout a meal. It is better for the employee(s) and less embarrassing for the customer. I honestly had no idea that bussing tables required a tip. As I said, the food wasn't half bad and their BBQ chicken was great -- but it's an old building with tight spaces between the tables and fold chairs. If you're wide-set or a heavy weight, you should consider going to the newer...
Read moreI haven’t had Dukes in years and I decided to grab me something to eat from there. Back in the day the food used to be be so good, I’m not sure who they fired but they need to rehire them ASAP. Because ain’t no way the food is that disgusting now… The chicken was fine. The BBQ sauce is the same recipe, the hush puppies were delicious as always, the green beans tasted like they added a whole tub of sugar in it and nothing else. The macaroni and cheese looked like half cooked vomit… besides the look of it, it was only fairly warm and the had to nerve to be unseasoned too. My theory is that someone rushed it and took it out long before it was done cooking. It just tasted like a mouthful of black pepper… I grabbed that plate from them at 12:15pm… ya’ll just opened no more than over an hour ago aint no way 😂 That plate had the nerve to be $15 too… waste of money and very...
Read moreWas traveling through 'and stopped for a takeout since this place was recommended. Had to wait a long time in the cold to place my order, then wait a while longer to pick it up. I found the woman at the counter to be rude and dismissive - she would not or could not tell me what a pound of barbecue looked like in terms of the containers displayed, and she rushed me through the order. My barbecue was placed in a thin paper tray and then a paper bag - no other wrapping or packaging to keep it fresh protected. When I got home 2 hours away, I found that the quart of hash I paid for was not in the bag and that the barbecue was disappointingly bland. The parking lot was full of customers -Maybe Orangeburg citizens aren't used to better BBQ. I would not recommend this...
