My wife and I stopped in for breakfast on our vacation on the mountain this last week. We looked up the menu online and couldn't wait to try the food. The young lady who "greeted" us was very rude, she practically yelled at us to sit down. We sat down and didn't receive menu's for 15 minutes ... when she did bring them she never asked if we wanted anything to drink or mention the specials. which seemed really odd.I would understand if she was busy and running around but she was nowhere to be seen. We almost got up to leave but we're really hungry. After another ten minutes luckily another woman showed up and she apologized up and down for us waiting and not having anything to drink. she recommended the bloody mary's which where amazing! Our new serves was very sweet and attentive, I am glad we decided to stick around. Had we left based on the previous server being blatantly rude we would never have got to try how wonderful the food was. my wife loved the mickey mouse pancakes and the chicken fried steak was seasoned just right and crispy! If it hadn't been for the first server I would rate the barlow trail roadhouse a 5! Being in the service industry myself I would hope this type of thing isn't typical for your...

Charming restaurant, friendly wait staff, only so-so food. I tried a lot of different items -- the chili, steak, salads, etc., and they were all okay but nothing I'd return for. It's too bad, since the atmosphere and staff make this a great place. When asked about a main course, the staff insisted the steak was awesome. It was so heavily marinated that I wonder if the staff like the steak for the steak... or if they just liked it because of the flavor of the marinade. Either way, getting past the marinade and the steak tasted a bit 'off'... like it wouldn't have lasted another day, or two, without having to be tossed out. Right on the edge of not being bad enough to toss out, but also not being good enough to serve on its own without trying to cover up the off taste with a heavy marinade. Hopefully this isn't the 'norm' for this restaurant, but this is our experience. We also had a lot of fried items -- and they all tasted like the same fried item, even though they were different. Maybe too much breading? Maybe because they were all treated and fried in the very same way? I'm not sure... but it was just 'okay' and not great, and not something I'd...

I have stopped here many times over the passing years, service is good and the food can be great depending on who is in the kitchen, the GooD cooks bounce around working on the mountain.

My fishing buddy and I stopped in Thursday (4/16/15) night after spending the day fishing Clear Lake, they close at 9:00 pm. We entered the restaurant and after standing waiting to be seated a server came out of the kitchen to inform us they closed at 9:00pm, I checked my/the phone and the time was 9:02, she was very nice in telling us she was very sorry, but they were closed. I can not help but feel we were kicked to the curb, if she would have been in the seating area and met us there would be no question we were there before closing time. The same thing happen the week before at the Sportsman Bar in Wamic, OR. They were more than happy to remain open and serve us, the cook even came out of the kitchen to check on us. I hope this provides insight to the service on Hwy. 26 Mt. Hood corridor one can come to expect @...

Excellent experience. My veggie omelet was SUPER good and cooked perfectly. Veggies were fresh tasting, nothing was watery. Country potatoes were the truth. Buddy ordered the famous halibut fish and ohh man. Spendy but worth it. The pieces were serious chunks of good meat and the tartar was really good too. Service was quick and the waitress politely declined new customers as the joint was at capacity (covid-19 capacity). Did it all quickly and professionally. Brittney was her name. The cabin setting I'm sure is cozy in winter but we sure were glad it had AC when we walked in, it was a scorcher in late August today. I'd make the effort to stop here again and would recommend to others. The coffee was really pretty weak though. That's my only downside.

๐Ÿ˜My oh my! What a special surprise๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ! We were just looking for a little breakfast cafรฉ on Highway 26, and found this ๐Ÿ’ŽGEM๐Ÿ’Ž in Welches, OR. You must read the history of the roadhouse on the menu. It ain't what it used to be, built in 1926, log cabin style stop for corps builders, loggers, and miners. Today the HUGE breakfast was enough for 2 to split, for a nominal $1 extra plate charge. We shared "4" portions of the ONE gigantic, most mouthwatering biscuit I have ever tasted! Enjoyed touring this little place and taking lots of pictures of the memorabilia and cool artifacts, cleverly and neatly displayed in this historical restaurant. Hats off to the chef and very courteous and attentive waitress! Coming back again SOON! OPEN WEDNESDAY-SUNDAY.

Giving 5 stars for everything has to meet a lot of criteria in my book, and this place has it all ! Quaint, old and cozy mountain cabin. Rustic charm. Although I didn't feel any ghosts, the stories say they are here. Breakfast on a Wednesday morning was quiet and peaceful. Our server, Kristen , was super friendly and fast. Linda was cooking ( for the last 20+ years ) and my biscuits and gravy were as good as any I've ever had.. even in southeastern Kentucky. The 1/2 order was huge ! As per my request, the bacon was crisp and definitely delicious. My other half had a ham and cheese omelet and potatoes... He ate every last bite even though he said it had 15 eggs..lol We'll be back tomorrow for breakfast!
