I am stuck at the far side marina docks on the east side of the river waiting for better weather to head north on my boat. Getting some cabin fever after a week here and decide to grab some breakfast at Cape Arago Cafe. I walk down to the highway and across the drawbridge on a cold wet morning, about 3/4 of a mile, only to find the place completely dark and closed, and no hours posted on the door. Checking again with the google maps listing, which is how I found the place, I'm not from around here, and the listing shows open every day at 7am. Now, I know these folks know how to use google maps, since they write counterpoint to reviews right below here, but how hard really is it to update your hours, and if you are going to serve breakfast from a small hometown cafe, being open at 7am can bring in lots of early risers. I don't like crowds, so I like coming in early. While looking at the door for anything posted for hours, a woman comes up from inside and tells me through the door that they open at 8, I point to the google listing on my phone that shows 7am open. It's 7:20 at this point. She says that is for the drive through. Like I want to get a take out order and sit at a wet picnic table in the dark and rain. This was supposed to be a pleasant break in my "bored out of my mind" week in this town. It would have been nice to be invited in to sit and wait for the place to open up, since I told her I walked here. Anyway, I went across the street, bought eggs and milk, and I will walk back and make my own durn breakfast. UPDATE: After the response below. No need to be rude maam, I don't care what you set your hours at, just set them accurately so folks don't walk a mile to be disappointed that you are closed when you say you are open. You don't "ask" google to adjust your hours, there is an edit link right on the page that does it, notice that your hours RIGHT NOW have been corrected to say 8am opening on monday, because I DID THAT EDIT FOR YOU and it showed up in a couple hours. Now you can do the rest.

*** Edited below for response to the owner *** They had good reviews so I overlooked the greasy fingerprints and soggy saltines in the salt shakers.... But they flat out refused to check on ANY ingredients for sesame when I have to carry EpiPens for allergies. A huge bummer because we drove a decent distance to give them a try. The server seemed annoyed we even asked. She said they made everything in house so I don't understand why we couldn't just ask the cook? I asked if they used real eggs and she nodded... but when I was brought the eggs they were definitely out of a carton so I couldn't eat those either (allergies to preservatives and dyes too). All and all it was a wildly different experience than I was hoping for. :( ***Addition to respond to owners comment*** - I eat at SEVERAL restaurants (and leave reviews for them too), most are more than willing to check ingredients for me without any hassle. Picky about cooking? That would be weird considering I stated I had a SEASAME ALLERGY. That's quite an unusual thing to worry about being in breading even if she misheard the part about my allergy. I don't need to tell staff I carry an EpiPen so they know it's a "serious enough" allergy to pay attention too...that makes me concerned for potential future customers. Hopefully they see this review. I think you need to reevaluate how you handle things.

After a morning of driving all over Coos Bay in search of the perfect breakfast spot, I finally found my way to Cape Arago Cafe and Espresso in Charleston—and I’m so glad I did. My search included a place closed due to short staffing, another too full to accommodate, and one that turned out to be more of a bar. Frustrated but determined, I kept going, and it was absolutely worth it. The cafe has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the lady working there was incredibly friendly and warm. Service was quick—I barely had time to sit down before my plate of eggs, bacon, and hash browns arrived. Everything was cooked to perfection: the eggs were just right, the bacon crisp, and the hash browns golden and delicious. This wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience that made me feel at home. I’m happy to say I’ve found my new go-to breakfast spot in the area. If you’re in Coos Bay or Charleston and need a hearty, satisfying meal in a place that feels like a hidden gem, make sure to stop by Cape Arago Cafe. It’s worth the drive.

Family was in town to camp for the weekend, but unfortunately, I had to work remotely in the mornings. I swang by early to take my meetings on my computer. when I sat down a few minutes after 7am (they open at 7am), I was already on my meeting with my headphones. as I began setting up my laptop the waitress brought me a menu and asked if I knew what I wanted.... I replied "Im gonna be here for a while. Just coffee for now please." She totally snapped at me and very curtly said "You are NOT gonna just sit here and do your homework all day and just order coffee!!!" what a rude jerk. so...even though I was intended on ordering food LATER, I went ahead and ordered a pancake and two eggs.

the food was good and came out very quickly.

I worked until my first break (about 2 hours) and then packed up to find a new location.

I went to counter to pay my tab with my card and the lady kind of curtly asked "Dont you have cash?"

I apologized and said "sorry. No. I just have a card"

She didnt reply, just entered the amount into the card reader and kinda handed me the reader to complete the transaction.

I completed with no tip. Sorry....this lady was just rude as heck and made me feel VERY unwelcome in her cafe.

My intent was to go back again tomorrow ordering both breakfast and lunch both days....unfortunately, she didnt seem to need the business.

I wont be back.....im writing this from Empire Donuts and Dogs and its MUCH MORE...

My partner and I often dine in Charleston and we decided to give this quaint little cafe a try on September 12, 2023. Great location, great ambience and decent service. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired.

My partner, a vegetarian, ordered a bowl of the clam chowder. It was more like a light soup, very watery and the clams few and far between. We both love chowder and have tried this meal in most of the restaurants from Florence to Port Orford, and this was dead last by a mile. If you love the rich taste of a thick, creamy chowder with chunks of clam, you will be greatly disappointed by what they serve at this establishment.

I opted for the burger and fries. The latter was decent, and the bun was on a nice toasted roll and looked presentable. However, I have no idea what made up the bulk of the "hamburger", but it certainly was not ground beef. It was a flat, processed patty that looked, smelled and tasted terrible. It had a pasty texture and I would hesitate to guess what the primary ingredient was. I have eaten hamburgers all over the country, and the "meat" in this one is a must to avoid.

When I paid for the meal, I asked for a receipt but was told they could not provide one. I was assured that I would receive one via email. That did not happen. Based on my bank statement, I paid $31.19 (including tip) for this meal and it was debited to "Ocean Air Taqueria", a closed business formerly at...
