Born and raised in Hawaii but Iāve seen lots of local places come and go from Salem. When I saw your menu I was excited for some of the products because it looked authentic. Unfortunately have to give the same advice as Iāve given for years. If you want good local food you gotta go up to Portland.
Spam musubi isnāt hard. Whatever that was, was overpriced AND had terrible proportions of rice to spam. Whatās with all the sauce? Gotta cook the spam in the sauce, not drench the rice in it :/ And whereās the furikake? Crazy man. Iāve seen so many different variations of musubi from different restaurants and 7-11ās. This was the worst :(
Finally, the katsu was burnt. Iāll admit the sauce was good and a the few pieces that were edible were decent but yeh. The rice was also overcooked and slimy almost. Cmon man. The recipes and desire is there but my mom was disappointed and I was too. I also got the wrong drinkā¦I ordered a Strawberry Guava (which was spelled wrong on your Doordash menu ā should have been my first warning) and got the Pineapple Orange instead.
So hard to find good local food. Please represent the islands a...
Ā Ā Ā Read more44 dollars for two plates is bold, reluctantly me and my wife were made to wait 30 minutes for the katsu chicken. Once our food came out, the katsu chicken was slightly dry but had good flavor. The hula chicken was balanced, crispy, and seemed fresh. That day they had bbq short ribs, the quantity was tiny (for a $3 surcharge as well) and most of what was on my plate was actually straight bone. I've never had an experience quite like it, considering there wasn't even that much meat on there to begin with. The rice was mushy and way overcooked, a big glob of mush was in the middle of my serving. Mac salad had a really really strong mayonnaise taste that me almost gag, personally this Mac salad wasn't what I remembered from local Hawaiian restaurant in Portland owned by families, this one was far too soupy and pungent.Usually in situations like this quantity over quality is the name of the game. Not only did the taste disappoint, so did the price. In conclusion, HAWAIIAN...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI LOVE Hawaiian food. I tried this food 3 times and here are my thoughts. I rated 4 stars for food and service but gave them a 3 star overall rating BECAUSE each time the food was not consistent and the food is WAY too costly for what you get IMO. The Hula chicken was perfect the first time and WAY too saucy the second time. I order the "build a plate" with the chicken and the beef (sweet ribs) which adds an additional $5 to the normal build a plate cost. This puts it over $20 and both times I only received 6 pieces of rib. If you don't know these, the are very thin. Both times the food was very good. The rice was very good but the mac was different each time. I do not have a problem supporting a place that is a little more pricey but I want to feel like I am getting my money's worth and I want the food taste and quality to be consistent. Not sure I will eat here again because I am really not sure what I am going to get. Huge potential but...
