We love Beggars Pizza. My parents actually know the people who own Beggars. I'm writing this review on their behalf because we had such a bad experience at this location and I'm so mad that the staff treated my parents this way.
My parents used to order Beggars every Friday night. Nothing huge - just a pizza and maybe some chicken tenders, fries, and zucchini.
On one recent Friday night, we ordered more food than usual because I had come over along with my nieces and nephew. My mom ordered online and got a pick-up time of 6pm. She arrived at the counter around 6pm. The girl at the front let her know that the order wasn't ready yet, which was fine. My mom paid her bill and took a seat to wait.
For the next 45 minutes, the girl updated my mom in 10 to 15 minute increments that the food still wasn't ready. My mom sat and waited patiently.
Finally, at 6:45, the girl let my mom know that one of the two pizzas they ordered had been ready and waiting but they hadn't even started making the other food yet. The second pizza was barely going into the oven then. So she told my mom that she'd need to come back in another 30-40 minutes.
So not only did one pizza sit and get cold while she waited, but the other food hadn't even been made. My mom came home, we ate some pizza, and she went back to collect the rest of the order. By this point, she was really mad. When she pulled into the parking lot, the manager (who my mom knew) saw her walking up and ran to the back. My mom asked for the manager because she wanted either a refund, a credit, or an apology. The girl in front kept giggling and saying the manager wasn't available but her food was ready now.
My parents haven't been back there after being loyal customers for several years. I wrote this review because I'm so angry at how they were treated. We are understanding people with a history in the service industry. We know things happen, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when things are busy. But after that much inconvenience, the manager should have at LEAST apologized and certainly should not have hidden...
Read moreGreat food, great team, great service! I grew up a short distance from the original Beggars on 127th and Western. I joined the service in '81 and haven't lived in the Chicago area since. However, every time I visit I make a point to stop by a Beggars at least once (usually more : ). This time, I wanted to bring a taste of Chicago deep dish home to family and friends in Northern Virginia. I stopped by the 143rd Street location in Orland and made a special request - I wanted them to make me 16 personal pan-size deep dish pizzas, par-bake and then freeze them for me. They normally don't par-bake the small pizzas, as the final baking could be tricky - the smaller the pizza, the easier to overcook and burn. Anyway, after checking with their manager they figured out a way to accommodate my request and provided very specific cooking instructions to ensure the pizzas turned out great (and they did!). On the day I picked up the pizzas, the staff even helped me secure each individual frozen pizza in a zip-lock bag, and then helped me out to my vehicle to load them in my cooler for transport. Anyway, I appreciate the great service. The only downside is that, since everyone I shared the pizzas with loved them so much, now I'll have to schlep pizzas across the country every time I visit the...
Read moreMy first experience with this location and it didn't go well. First and foremost the food was very good..... Service... Not so much. Reviews like this are challenging because every place has a bad day, but nonetheless this was my experience.
I placed an order online, which went flawless. It provided a time when the food would be ready for pickup. Great 👍🏼. I actually arrived a little late due to traffic. After waiting at least 5 more minutes to get waited on, I was told my order wasn't ready yet. I was told it would be about 10 minutes. Ok, not a big deal. I ultimately wound up waiting 30 minutes for my food. Not too happy, but at least it was fresh and hot. I left only to get a call from Beggars when I was about a mile away. They had discovered they forgot to give me an item, so I had to turn back around to go back and pick it up. I guess I should be happy they called before I got home and discovered it was missing. So, bonus points. I would say this location suffers from lack of training for the employees. I was able to observe the kitchen staff while waiting, and all I can say is it looked like unorganized chaos, with no manager in sight. It's a wonder they were able to produce any food.
The food was good, so I wouldn't say to avoid it, just manage your...
