I recently had an extremely disheartening experience at Johnny’s Other Side when I attempted to dine for a childhood friends baby shower with my service dog. As someone who relies on the support of my service dog, this incident left me deeply disappointed and frustrated.
Upon entering the restaurant with my well-trained service dog, I was immediately informed by the staff (Jamie Bar Manager) that my dog would not be allowed inside unless I provided medical documentation justifying my need for a service animal. This was not only unexpected but also a violation of my rights as a person with a disability.
Service dogs are not just pets; they are essential companions that provide vital assistance to individuals with disabilities. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses, including restaurants, are legally required to allow service dogs to accompany their owners without the need for documentation or explanation.
Not only was I shocked by the refusal, but I was also embarrassed and made to feel like a burden by having to explain my medical condition to strangers. This experience was not only emotionally distressing but also completely unnecessary.
I would like to remind Jamie and Johnnys Other Side, its staff that individuals who rely on service dogs face enough challenges in their daily lives and should not have to endure additional hardships when simply trying to enjoy a meal. As Jamie continued to say my documentation I provided was for emotional support not service, which is a complete violation of my rights. I’m sorry Jamie, are you a doctor? It is essential for businesses to be aware of the laws protecting the rights of people with disabilities and to treat all customers with respect and dignity.
I hope that this review serves as a reminder to Jamie & Johnny’s Other Side; other establishments to educate their staff about the ADA regulations regarding service animals. It is my sincere hope that no one else has to go through the humiliating and unjust experience that I endured during my visit.
In the future, unfortunately there will be no future as I’ve been coming to this establishment for 25yrs. I will advise ppl to avoid this establishment and to seek welcoming ppl and their dogs. I hope to see improved awareness and understanding of the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a restaurant experience without discrimination or...
Read moreWent in to watch some football and eat. It's open seating, not a ton of open seats when we were there but we found a table over to the side.
We sit and have some menus dropped off. Then we wait, and wait. After about 25 minutes, our server comes over to greet us and we let her know we're ready to order everything. 2 drinks from the bar, two waters and an appetizer. (We decided to wait on food until we got our apps as we weren't in any sort of rush). Our drinks from the bar are dropped off but no waters. A bit after that, our appetizer is dropped, at which point we order our food. After that, we saw our server ONCE more prior to us finishing our entree. Never got our waters.
As we're about halfway through our food, we flag another server down and ask for water, as we both were eating food that had spice in it, and a spicy bloody Mary wasn't quenching any sort of thirst. We hangout some more, at this point our plates are empty along with our drinks but after another 40 minutes or so of no server, we decided to head elsewhere to watch the games.
I want to preface the fact that we saw our server the entire time. She had 1 group watching football (maybe 8-10 people who were already done eating) that she would routinely check up on. The only issue is that we'd watch her walk up to their table, stop and chat for a minute or two, bring them what they need, then when finished, she would walk the other way, never stopping by to check on us.
I generally don't write negative reviews, especially on fellow members of the service industry, but when both myself and the other guest in my party have over 10 years of experience working in Orlando restaurants and bars, service like this really sticks out to us and leaves quite the negative impression in our minds.
I feel foolish for talking so highly about this location prior to us going , only to be let down so drastically.
I understand we weren't as big of a "check" as the bigger group our server was attending to, but for a location with such good food and vibes, you COMPLETELY missed the mark with your service (or lack there of). Especially since we had every intention of ordering more food and drinks.
-Food was 10/10 -Ambiance was exactly what we wanted -Service was some of the worst I've experienced in Orlando...
Read moreFirst time going here. The place is cute with a sports bar atmosphere which also means it is kind of loud but not horrible. Outdoor (under roof) seating which is dog friendly which is great for people with their four legged friends. The staff I do have to say is not the friendliest (our waitress was nice but that is about it) upon arriving as I said we had never been before and wasn't sure exactly where to sit as we had our dog. We stood there for about 5 mins with employees walking by us. Finally one girl said from the drink bar across the way for us to seat ourselves we tried to explain we had a dog and that we wasn't sure where it was allowed. Instead of coming over to talk to us she just says not up high with a snotty attitude and walks away. We wasnt exactly sure what that meant and it was pretty busy so we just found a table and sat down. Another thing we wasn't a fan of is the place has a misting fan at almost every table (which is fine for some people especially when it's hot) unfortunately for us it was blowing directly in our faces soaking us and our table. Our waitress was no where around at this point so my husband decided to get up and look at the fan to see if there was a switch when one of the male employees says to him umm what are you doing dude with an attitude. We explained he was looking to see if we could turn off the fan as it was bothering us and he just said no there all on the same switch and walked away but continued to eyeball my husband the rest of the time like he was a criminal for trying to look for a fan switch. The food was good but most of the employees were so rude and honestly not dressed in what i feel as appropriate attire for serving food i understand it is a sports bar type atmosphere and laid back in which i respect that but when you have 98% of the female employees in tight tight leggings in which you can see every crease with there backs, bellys and tattoos hanging out all over the place i just dont find that appropriate. It is one thing when you go to a place like hooters to expect that and even then its not as trashy looking. If your looking for simple food and watching a game this...
