I had a racist experience at Melendez imports this evening and i lost my glasses over there. The owner is always flirting with me, while at the same time being highly disagreeable and starting arguments with me. I think he stole my glasses because he started another argument with me this evening when I approached him because i didn’t want to talk across the room. He became very combative because he thought i was going to say something about the food, he then suggested that he can refuse service and he doesn’t need my business. But to be jonest the food is not great, but the real issue is that there’s no other Jamaican restaurant within 40 mile radius. Its a Mexican grocery store cooking “inspired Jamaican food”, and it’s palatable at best. They do not provide plantains as a side option and they don’t include bread with your meal. I was about to purchase a whole bag of Jamaican hard dough bread for 2 slices of bread with my meal, but i never got to that point beca He started arguing with me about the difference between an up charge and an additional fee. Soni asked him whets the difference and his ego was bruised and he started telling me that hes stronger than me and i said you should be, and he corrected me about all the other rude Jamaican women that he stop from coming to his store. I said but I’m not being rude, in fact i was whispering because i don't like anyone to see me acting ir behaving badly in a public place. Things escalated quickly and i left, leaving the hard dough bread and my glasses on the table. And when i returned, the glasses were gone, and he’s actually as though he hasn’t seen them. I couldn’t’ve driven there in the dark without them and i had to use my broken car spare in order to fet home safely because of this man. Ive been told by other people about his racist remarks before and it may not be the first time with me either,...
Read moreWe have lived in the area for almost 5 years now, and for some reason, had never tried this wonderful restaurant. Very laid back atmosphere, and you can tell it's run with pride and joy. You can see clearly into the kitchen, and I was impressed with how clean and orderly it was.
This is now my favorite Mexican cuisine in the area. The flavor of every single dish was beyond excellent; even the sides, like rice and beans! The chips and salsa are both tasty as well. Carne Asada tacos (Mexican-style, with cilantro and onion) were full of flavor, and mine were each on 2 corn tortillas, which is genius, and thoughtful. The Small wet burrito is large enough to be considered Large, in my wife's opinion, but she enjoyed it very much. Oh! There's a large selection of bottled and canned beverages, but the fountain sodas are included free with your meal. Thought that was really nice.
We went on a Tuesday, and sadly could not try the Caribbean food, which is only available Thursday and Friday. We will definitely be going back for this, and more of the Mexican cuisine as well. If you haven't discovered this place,...
Read moreTerrible service. I’ve tried ordering from here a few times and if your order more than 3-4 tacos they get very frustrated with you and act like your bothering them. We get very simple Mexican tacos but they can’t seem to handle an order that has both flour and corn tortillas. This last time I ordered I tried to get 12 tacos, we have 6 people in our family. I usually get all steak but this time I needed 2 chicken. The gentlemen that answered the phone got very frustrated saying “oh my god” because I needed two chicken instead of all steak and because half of our tacos were flour and half corn. He must have decided our order wasn’t with the effort because he grunted and then hung up on me. I will never order from here again. We can spend up to 60$-70$ each time we are here but even though the food is good, the poor service is worth not the cost. The rudeness comes from the same guy, the one helping out the lady in the kitchen. The other gentlemen at the register...
