East of Chicago — Restaurant in Ossian

I ordered a taco salad with a side of ranch over the phone. Picked it up and brought it back to work. When I opened the container the salad was very skimpy. It had a ton of lettuce, a few chips, about 1/4 cup of dried taco meat, a handful of onions and cheese. They gave me salsa, sour cream and of course my ranch on the side. I contemplated whether or not To call and inquire. The girl on the phone who stated she made my salad told me that she put tomatoes on it. I explained that I was looking at it and there was no tomatoes. After her arguing with me and saying I did an online order and must have clicked no on these toppings (again I ordered on the phone) I ended up telling her I was bringing it back.

I took it back and got a different girl. She confirmed that my salad was missing items. I asked her for my money back. She told me she could not refund my money because I had the wrong receipt. I told her this was the receipt I received when I picked up the food. She told me other staff gave me wrong copy and that she was gone for the day so she could not refund my money. I ended up giving them the salad and not getting my money back. Was not even offered store credit. Beware of East of Chicago Ossian Indiana. Their staff...

So I have to share this story because it was just such a rare experience to have at a restaurant.

We've been going to the East of Chicago in Ossian for awhile now. Nothing new, same good pizza. Same good people.

The other day my family went in to sit down and have a meal. The owner has always been extra friendly with us and my young daughter. But today the owner saw that my daughter wasn't eating. No specific reason, the terrible twos are sitting in hard and she's just extra picky. Well the owner saw this, and went out of her way to make a plate of spaghetti for my daughter. She thought that maybe my daughter didn't like what we had ordered and wanted to get her something else.

We don't know the owner that well which made this experience so much better. It's not like we've been friends for years and she's just helping out again. She is just legitimately a good person and goes out of her way to be friendly with people. We always said we liked East of Chicago in Ossian but this nails...

So so disappointing.... the customer service was AMAZING!!! PLACE WAS SUPER SUPER CLEAN.... the pizza was phenomenal.... but the sandwiches were awful.. I'm so confused.. I ordered the steak one and it had HUGE chuncks of RAW green pepper in them and RAW onions ... the bread was not toasted at all and it was completely cold even tho I was there when they made it and picked it up as soon as it was done.the Italian was even colder and the bread was no toasted and the onions were completely raw. Which is fine.... it's fine I just wish they would of said that on the menu. The green pepper was unacceptable t It looked like someone cut it in fours and then put it on my sandwich it was HUGE .... I will try this place again in the future and will...
