Zapp's Custard and Mustard — Restaurant in Painesville

Took my family to Custard and Mustard for lunch today. We absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed the simplicity of their menu. They dont go over board with the hotdog options like Scooter's or Dynamite Dawgs (two other amazing hotdog places in lake county). My oldest really enjoyed her cheese burger, my two youngest enjoyed a plain grilled hotdog that they dipped in mustard and ketchup. My wife enjoyed the chicken strips. I got the Italian Sausage Patty Sub with the onions and peppers and added cheese. It was damn good! I would get again. I really wanted to try their Chicago Italian beef but with it being my first time eating there I didnt want to get anything too spicy! Their french fries are different, not your traditional style of fries but we really enjoyed them. My sister in law got a chili cheese dog to take home to her husband and it looked absolutely amazing. Now the crazy aspect of this place is the sheer amount of ice cream options! I dont think I have ever been to an ice cream place with that many hard scoop flavors of icecream. It felt like they had the same amount or more than say King Kone. Even with all those hard scoop flavors they have their soft serve custard along with another flavor. Which was orange when we got there. When I got my dole orange, it was still getting some left over pineapple because it was the flavor they did before and it was fantastic tasting. The owner had no issues letting me try some samples, I tried the fruit scoops icecream which was amazing like it was fruit loop icecream and then she recommended me try the bee sting icecream that was made with hot honey. Which was surprising really good. Starts starts off sweet and creamy and then the spicy honey sneaks up and "stings" ya! We loved the patio setup and everything of the outside. Lovely new place at 5 point in Painesville. Greeted as soon as we walked in the door by 3 young ladies. They didn't rush us giving us plenty of time to read the menu. Nice and Cool inside! 87° outside the day we visited. A customer 🚻 restroom is available. You have the choice of Soft Serve Custard, Hard Dipped Ice cream and their sandwich menu. Plenty of Seats out front with shade umbrellas 🏖️. My wife and I tried medium cones. I felt the Chocolate Custard was delicious and creamy. When I saw the dark chocolate hard dip I was wondering if I had made the right choice on this visit? Both the cup cones and the sugar cones were fresh and delicious. It definitely does not last long! They also have Waffle cones available. They also sell various bagged maple confections. We spent $4 apiece plus tax. Custard Generally is just a little bit more pricey than ice cream. You don't have to put a tip on the bill. An old fashion tip jar is setting near the cashier for those that wish to leave a tip. Overall it was a good initial visit. Hard ice cream is Perry's, so very good. Sadly the food and custard are not very good. Burger was a generic frozen patty, nothing special. Fries have a unique shape, but lightly salted and expensive for the quantity you get. Custard was the worst part, which is sad due to that being their name. I got the strawberry and it had chunks of ice in it and was very artificial tasting. Custard should be creamy and smooth, it was neither. Also see pictures of the watery slurry it melted into instead of a creamy milk. Staff sadly was also rude. Noticeable eye rolls when a large amount of customers came in asking for food orders.
